David Parry Dry, 85, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2016. David was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Williamsburg where he was involved in many things, including serving on the vestry and singing in the choir.
David was a career military man like his father and took great pride in supporting anything Air Force but also any other branch of the armed services. He served honorably for over 20 years, parts of which were in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. During one of his duty tours at RAF Alconbury, in England he met the love of his life Joan. They were married there in 1963. After retiring from the military with his last stop being Langley Air Force Base, he went on to find a home and passion as a stockbroker. He completed the last 25 years of his career working for Davenport and Company in Williamsburg which was his second family. He truly enjoyed his job, the people he worked with and serving his many clients with honor, dignity and respect. He remained a steadfast worker until his retirement at the age of 83. He set the bar high for moral and ethical conduct, especially for his two sons.
David had a great love for both planes and cars and anyone who knew him knew that if the subject of flying or fixing cars came up- you were going to be there a while! He loved to tinker, but when it came to cars he had a special place in his heart for his Saab’s.
Throughout the years, he took great care of his wife Joan and his two loving sons. David, being a true family man dearly loved his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “papa”, and not to be overshadowed, his Shih Tzu, Boji. His family and friends remember him as a loving, giving and honest man.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Joan Dry; sons, Stephen Dry (Laura), and Kevin Dry (Molly); grandchildren, Brandon Garlock (Kelly), Olivia Dry, Emmy Dry, Gracie Dry, Andrew Dry, and David Dry; and brother-in-law, Frank Turner (Joyce).
A service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 12:00pm at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 1333 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA. Condolences may be made online at www.nelsencares.com
