He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith C. Meadows of Williamsburg, his brother Jerry Meadows of Lynchburg, VA, and his parents James and Lucille Meadows of Bedford, VA. Dennie is survived by his son James Meadows (Diane); grandchildren Christopher and Emilie also of Williamsburg, VA; sisters Carol Merricks of Forest, VA, Norma Jean Earl of Huntington, WVA and Bobbie Lee Mullins of Oakwood, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dennie was born on March 3, 1946 in Richlands, VA and raised in Buchanan County. He served in the United States NAVY from 1964 to 1968 and was stationed aboard the USS Austin. He received the National Defense Service Medal in 1968 and remained Naval Reserve until April of 1970.
Following his service, Dennie worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Lynchburg Ready Mix until he moved his family to Williamsburg, VA in the early 1980s and brought his passion for hunting, fishing and gardening with him. He enjoyed extended hunting trips with his buddies into the mountains of Virginia and fishing trips in the Chesapeake Bay. Dennie also enjoyed fishing with his friends and family in all local rivers, ponds, and lakes and had his favorite spot in each of them. Dennie took pride in growing his illustrious garden each year, especially his heirloom tomatoes, which he would start from seed each winter. He would even plant vegetables he disliked just to watch them grow.
Until his retirement in the early 2000s, Dennie worked at Anheuser-Busch as a maintenance technician. Dennie was dedicated to his family and friends, but above all enjoyed spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 9, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA. A graveside ceremony will be held at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
