

Ruth Di-Ann Dimmett, 88, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020 in Williamsburg, VA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Roth; 4 brothers, Kenneth, Charles, James and William Roth; 3 sisters, Mildred Kampe, Jane Brown, and Josephine Tolliver; and grandson, Wil Hecker.
Mom was always busy and enjoyed many activities. She was the founder and first President of the Williamsburg Women’s Medical Auxiliary; member of Williamsburg Skipwith Garden Club; Williamsburg Women’s Chorus; troop leader for Boy Scouts of America and Brownies and Girl Scouts of America; a College of William and Mary Alumnus; and a member of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church.
As an artist she enjoyed various mediums, painting, portrait painting, sculpting and crafting. Mom was also a storyteller and writer of unpublished children stories that were enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. Additionally, she enjoyed furniture restoration, collecting antiques, traveling and was an avid gardener of all types of flowers and plants. Mom was talented, smart, witty, beautiful and could light up a room with her smile.
Most importantly, Mom was the heart of her family and the love of Jim’s life.
She is survived by her husband, James D. Dimmett M.D.; sons, Steven Dimmett (Deborah “Debbie”) and Gary Dimmett; daughters, Brenda Harris (Donald), Karen Raiford, Janice Hecker (Thomas), Rita Dimmett (Dana Lutz) and Rebecca Dimmett-Watts (Jeffrey); grandchildren, Dori-Ann Friend (Mike), Kelly Dimmett, David Dimmett, Becka Brooks, Amy Brooks, James Harris (Savhannah), Anna Harris, April Hawk (Cameron), Jared Harris, Rachel Raiford, Vincent Raiford, Jessica Raiford, Kyle Hecker (Mahnoor), Skyler Hecker (Jenny), Ethan Godfrey, Andrew Watts, Allie Watts and Preston Watts; and 7 great grandchildren.
