Mom, 

You are forever loved, missed, thought of and remembered as such a beautiful lady who could do or fix absolutely anything!  I know you’re always with us and I feel comfort in knowing you are near. I wish so much that you were physically with us and Dad misses you so much. He always says you are the “Love of His Life” and it is so apparent why.  We’ll be with you one day!

I will always cherish the time I spent with you and the stories you told me. I am excited to decorate my home with art and flowers in your honor.

A loving mother and grandmother whose absence is deeply felt. We miss you every day and will love you forever. 

When I was younger, going to grandmas house was always an adventure. Whether it was to play outside in the woods, go fishing in the creek behind their house, or stay up late in the basement telling ghost stories, it was always a good time. Our grandmother was always a strong, powerful woman to me - she could silence a room with her voice, or fill it with smiles and laughter simply on a whim. I’m fortunate enough to have cherished many wonderful memories with her- the times we talked about her rough upbringing, eating mustard sandwiches when that’s all they had. Other times we’d talk about the newest thing she was painting, or her favorite show she was watching that week. She taught me so much about family, so much about caring, and so much about loving others. While I am deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful woman, I find solace in the fact that she made me a better person, taught me all she could, and will rest peacefully for the rest of our days. She will be greatly missed, but I can’t imagine another person I’d be more proud of to call my grandma. 

The love and compassion Grandma had for her family was made apparent from the first time I met her. She let me into her home and life and made me truly one of the family. She had such a warmth about her. I really admired her dedication to art. I would always be taken aback by the amount of paintings and other works she had made that are displayed throughout the house. She never stopped creating. And I could see how she looked at the world through artist's eyes. Always observing without judgement. I love you, Grandma. 

Thank you for the times you pushed me on the swing in your backyard.  For the over-the-top Easter Egg hunts where the candy would last for a whole year!  Thank you for turning your house into such a magical place at Christmas.  I could never wait to get there on Christmas morning.  You made holidays so very special. 
	Thank you for delicious meals served at a huge table to include everyone. For peanut soup and beets with purple eggs. For ham that once got stolen from the table by Czar. Thank you for giving homes to rescue dogs from shelters. You helped turn my fear of them into a passion. 
        Thank you for loving plants. For creating a beautiful garden in your yard that I loved to walk through with you.  I can’t see a hydrangea bush without thinking of you. 
        Thank you for sharing your love of the beach and your beach-combing adventures with me. For taking me to thrift stores and Darryl’s in Manteo.   That town will always make me feel close to you. Thank you for painting countless portraits.  My childhood room was decorated with several that you made.  I remember the bear with the ice cream cone, in particular. Thank you for giving me the coolest binder ever for school when you painted my favorite Sanrio character, Pochacco, on one. It felt so special.  
    Thank you for being so excited to see my own children.  How lucky they are to know their great-grandmother.  For teaching Mikayla that the sunlight shining through your prism lamp is what created the rainbow on the floor.  From that moment on, you’d be known as “Sunshine” to my kids. Thank you for letting them call you that. 
Thank you for spending time with us on the deck during our last time at the beach together. The memories that Michael made with you that day are now priceless. 
Thank you for passing your art gene to Mikayla . She is such a talented painter and I think you’d be proud. 
My thank you’s could go on and on but I hope you know how much you mean to all of us.   Love you.

Years ago, during one of the many large and delicious Thanksgiving meals held at the Dimmett house, I remember Grandma asking everyone to go around the table as we ate and share something for which we were thankful. Amidst a few groans, she started off the sequence herself to get everybody going. I doubt anybody anticipated a surprise answer, and she shared exactly what I expected: she was thankful for her family.

This was, in fact, no big secret to anyone. All it would take was a few minutes of watching to see just how much Grandma loved family. It was not uncommon to find her sitting in her chair in the big living room talking with anyone who sat down. She loved walking through her yard watching us grandkids as we collected Easter candy or as we ran through the Haunted Forest during Halloween. The kitchen was another of her popular dwelling places, as everyone milled about getting everything prepared for a Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. And it just wasn’t new year’s unless we all sat around the watching the TV and waiting patiently, with champagne (or sparkling grape juice) in hand, waiting for the ball to drop.

Her love also extended down to her great grandchildren, as all of us got older and our own families (and therefore hers) expanded. She loved holding each of my kids, and watched with glee as they tricycled up and down the long front hallway. With four kids under five years old, there is never a shortage of noise, but with every apology, she expressed to us her delight in the clamor. 

Through the years, holidays continued acting as the focal point of our family gatherings. The love she had for her family grew and grew in equal proportion to each new addition. Grandma loved Holidays almost as much as she loved her family, but I don't think those loves were mutually exclusive. 

   Grandma's house and it's particular atmosphere are so deeply ingrained in my brain that it's the scaffolding for some of my most vivid dreams at night. I remember the faint smell of paint anytime I walked into her studio, always speckled with sunlight that managed to get through the thick tangle of tree branches above the green room's glass roof. 
   I remember her deep, mischievous laugh when something tickled her funny bone and the way she said my name.  I remember ambling through CW or simply through the yard and how she would touch the plants gently and thoughtfully, inspecting them and sometimes giving a sniff.
   I remember dolls and leopard print, big meals and family gatherings in a warm house, Grandma with her feet up next to the fire. The smell of lasagna or spaghetti or some other tomato sauce-based food. Somehow there was always fruit cake or pecan pie. I remember waiting up until midnight with everyone talking together in the living room, Grandma holding her glass of champagne ready to take a sip. And how she loved parades. Cracker Barrel conversations and the beach. She touched the seashells like she did the plants. 
   She was tactile and tangible and knew how to relish with her senses everything around her.  Her presence, too, was tangible. I pray for you still, Grandma, and for those who miss you very much. I pray God blesses you and keeps you and gives comfort to those of us left behind.
