Donald G. Demmert was born on May 9, 1923 in Bloomfield, N.J. He passed away suddenly on June 11, 2018 at the age of 95. Don became a B17 Pilot in WWII, was shot down over Germany and was a POW at Stalag Luft 1 in East Germany until the end of the war. He was proud to have served his country and received several awards including the prestigious French Legion of Honor Award. He married and raised his family in Wayne, N.J. until retiring to Williamsburg in 1989. He had a varied career which included owning his own company for over 10 years during which he worked with his brother, children and children's friends. He was an important influence on many people. He lived a long and wonderful life filled with his many passions and talents. He loved music and sang in bands and churches throughout his life. He loved to garden, was a master gardener and volunteered many hours in Colonial Williamsburg. He loved to travel, learn new things and meet new people. He charmed all who knew him with his interested, open and loving personality as well as his gift for gab. He is survived by Hildegard, his wife of 60 years, three sons and their wives, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road, at 2pm Wednesday June 20th with a reception immediately following.
