

She was born on July 29, 1936, in Danville, VA. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Junius and Marie Brown; her sister, Evelyn B. Martin; and her husband of 67 years, Jackson L. Stamper.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathy S. Bloxom, Lynn S. Sadler, Jackson “Jay” Lee Stamper Jr. and his wife Kelly, and Julie S. Johnston and her husband John; her seven grandchildren: Kristina Bloxom and her husband Christopher, Kyle Bloxom and his wife Danielle, Karaline Stamper, Lauren B. Upton and her husband Joseph, Rachel Johnston, Eric Johnston and Graham Stamper. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
Dorothy attended Marion College and Longwood College. She worked as a teachers aid in the Nottoway County School system with the majority of time at Crewe Primary School. Dorothy loved her time working with children and being a kind influence in their early years.
She was an active member of the Crewe-Burkeville Lions club until she moved to Williamsburg in 2020. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmville, VA and King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, VA. Dorothy was a dedicated member of St John’s Church for over 40 years. There, she gave much of her time and participated in many functions such as yard sales, the annual Christmas bake sale and the annual distribution of Thanksgiving Dinner to families in the community. She was a member of the choir, the head of the Altar Guild as well as the treasurer of the local Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. At King of Glory, she made multiple prayer shawls and other knitted projects for the Prayer Shawl Committee. Dorothy loved the comradery of the friends she made during her service with these organizations.
She loved spending time with her family; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, niece, nephews and their children. Her unwavering commitment to them brought her great joy in life.
Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA on May 3, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, VA on May 5 at 9:30 AM. A committal service will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, Amelia Court House, VA on May 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
