Though he was born in Queens Village, Ed moved to Syracuse at a young age and stayed there through college at LeMoyne and his early years with IBM. He met his wife Barbara on a blind date in 1965, and they spent the next 60 years together - raising three sons and blessed with six grandchildren.
Ed retired from IBM in 2001 as the Northeast Regional Sales Manager. He then spent several more years as Vice President of Sales at Corning Data Services, at a much more leisurely pace that allowed Ed and Barbara to travel and enjoy their lake house. Eventually they settled in Williamsburg, VA, embracing the active lifestyle that Ford’s Colony embodied.
Faith and commitment were always a foundation of Ed’s life, whether to his family, to his God, or to his country. Over the years, he managed to stay active in Parish Council, Catholic School Board and as an AARP tax aide; all while traveling for IBM and attending all the kids’ sports.
His strong work ethic and genuine concern for others won the respect of his peers and the admiration of his business associates. His children, Kevin (Amanda), Darin (Alexa), and Brian (Marlana) and grandchildren Colin, Meghan, Rowan, Ava, Michael, and Adelyn will be the strength that Barbara and his sister, Angela will lean on.
Visitation will be at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia, on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 2 PM to 5 PM. A funeral mass will be offered at Saint Olaf’s Catholic Church Norge, Virginia on December 30, 2025 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Tunnels to Towers, a charity that was especially important to Ed. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
“I have fought the good fight. I finished my race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.”
