A proud American, Eric loved serving in the U.S. Army. As a member of Alpha Company Unit, 2nd Battalion, 210th Aviation Brigade, USAACE, he loved flying with the Army as Chinook Flight Engineer, and could often be seen dangling his feet from the Chinook. During his military career, he had served one tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan. At the time of his passing, Eric was serving his 18th year currently stationed at Fort Eustis, VA.
Eric was fun-loving, quick-witted, blunt, incredibly humorous, and a goofball. A constant jokester, he wasn’t just the life of the party, he was the entire party. He enjoyed documentaries and learning, especially in regards to conspiracy theories and aliens. He loved debating politics and strived to “Make America Great Again.”
Although he was an animal person especially fond of cats, Eric quickly fell in love with his wife’s dog, Tessa, who he then claimed as his own.
He will be missed by his wife, Jessica Hagen; children, Elaine Hagen and Jeremy Selz; his mother and stepfather, Carol Ransom (Russell); his father and stepmother, Gregory Hagen (Penny); stepbrother, David McConnell (Meredith); and maternal grandfather, Gregg Wirfs.
Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg on Monday, June 12 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Services will take place at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 13 at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA.
