
Frances – lovingly called “Bonnie” - was born in Albion, New York on March 8, 1937. Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Rev Ward B. Hurlburt and beloved mother, Frances E “Elanore” Hurlburt. Bonnie loved the Lord and her faith in Jesus Christ was her true lifeline. Her favorite hymn was How Great Thou Art!
Bonnie received her Bachelor of Science degree from Radford College in 1958 and her Master of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1964. She was a teacher in Morocco, North Africa and Colorado Springs, Colorado before working at Radford University. Bonnie worked as Assistant Dean in 1963 and Dean at Radford from 1964 until her retirement as Assistant VP for Student Affairs/Dean of Students in 2002. The Student Center at Radford is named after her “The Bonnie” (Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center). Bonnie was president of VASPA (Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators) in 1974 and received commendation from the February 2002 Commonwealth of Virginia General Assembly House Joint Resolution.
Bonnie was active in her church and loved serving as a greeter at Liberty Baptist/York River in Williamsburg. She excelled in speaking the positive and Investing in Lifetimes. Bonnie was a world traveler who believed in equality of all people. She loved golf and the friends she shared the sport with. Bonnie loved music; she had a beautiful Alto voice and could harmonize with ease. Rhythm was innate to Bonnie and she loved dancing – even at 88! From start to finish she lived her life with dignity and grace and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Bonnie is survived by her brother, Ward B Hurlburt III, MD, his wife Toby Hurlburt, and their children Ward B Hurlburt IV and Carolee E (Hurlburt) Dekker, their spouses, children and grandchildren.
Rest peacefully, beloved Bonnie, and rise majestically. Let light perpetual shine upon you, through God’s grace and mercy!
