Fred E. Farley, of Chickahominy Haven, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hi and Murmie Farley and his son, Gene Farley. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and later retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding Company, where he worked as a mechanical engineer. Born in the coal mining town of Belfry, KY, Fred attended Pikeville College, and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Mechanical Engineering degree. His love of the water and boating led him to the purchase of Chickahominy Marina in James City County, creating the opportunity for a family business for years to come. He was known for his love of his family, his generosity and willingness to help others, his love of woodworking, and his dry sense of humor. Left to cherish Fred’s memory are his wife, Susan Farley; son, Jimmy Farley (Woodie); daughter-in-law, Julia; and grandchildren, Hunter, Gaby, Nina, Olivia and Sofia.
