She was preceded in death by her husband, Dixon G. Brown and her niece, Sarah Eborn.
Originally from Savannah, GA, Gay attended nursing school at Candler Hospital. After relocating to Virginia, Gay went on to have a long career in retail management.
A lifelong student, Gay was always looking to learn. She had a wide area of interests, and was a lover of art, animals, and history.
She will be missed by her son, Harold “Chip” Gause III; daughters, Patricia Daube (Jeff), Wendy Turner (Leroy), and Jenny Sutherland (Aaron); grandchildren, Andrew Sutherland, Evelyn Gause, and Riley Daube; sister, Dyana Young (Hank); and brother, McDonald Eborn (Phyllis).
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Tri-County Pit Bull Rescue Inc. of Mathews, VA. Services will be private at a later date.
