Geraldine Crump Allen

Geraldine Crump Allen passed away on August 5, 2014. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 16, 1928, she lived in Williamsburg for more than 65 years. At the beginning of her career, Ms. Allen worked as a supervisor at Trinkle Hall at the College of William and Mary, until 1965 when she advanced her career by enrolling in Business/Secretarial school.

Upon graduation from the Peninsula Business College of Newport News, VA, Ms. Allen became the school secretary at Walsingham Academy. She also was employed as Office Manager for the late A.J.S. Eberdt, M.D. and Dr. John Kaiser. She also attended Thomas Nelson Community College.

As a lifelong member of St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Ms. Allen was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed music, dancing and often took care of senior citizens in the community before her retirement. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, nurturing spirit and devotion to her children and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lewis Allen; her sister, Mary Ghee; and her brothers, Frank Crump, James Crump and Joseph Crump.

Ms. Allen is survived by her three children, Wanda N. Allen of Hampton, VA, Dorothea R. Allen of Hampton, VA and James G. Allen (Dave Brewer) of Alexandria, VA; her brothers, Reginald A. Crump (Deloris), George Guy Brown (Gertrude); and her sisters, Bernadine Allen, Delores Brown, Vivian Paige, and Aljournia Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Ms. Allen had a special bond with her daughter’s goddaughter, Antravias Suzyanne Brooks and her daughter, Milani Asia Cargill of Greenbelt, MD.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 8 from 9-11am, followed by a service at 11am, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188. Interment will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Williamsburg VA.
