Gladys Ruth Wiggins, 78, peacefully passed on November 14, 2017. She spent her early years near Moncks Corner, SC., with her uncle and aunt, Johnny and Ella Rodgers. As a teenager, she relocated to Newport News, VA., where she attended Warwick High School. Here she met and married her beloved husband of 62 years, Lyle Oneal Wiggins. Gladys is predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Roger Kinard, and a sister, Jeanette Meares. Left to rejoice in her memory are her husband, Lyle Wiggins of Williamsburg, VA., a brother and sister in law, Douglas and Betty Kinard of Richmond Hill, GA., and her four children and their spouses. They are Oneal and Jennifer Wiggins of Virginia Beach, VA., Greg and Donna Wiggins, Johnny and Meg Wiggins, and Tammy and Jimmy Schumacher, all of Williamsburg, VA. Her extended family includes eight grandchildren: Aaron Wiggins, Sean Arietta, Brittany Hunt, Jeff Wiggins, Hunter Schumacher, Jake Wiggins, Danny Wiggins, Jessica Wiggins, and two great-grandchildren: Georgia Hunt and Luke Wiggins. Gladys' love of family and devotion to friends was well known to everyone in her circle. She worked many years for Colonial and Big Star Markets, and was a retired school bus driver for James City County. She was an avid gardener who had a green thumb when it came to growing everything from house plants to vegetables. She loved the peace and beauty of living in the country. Gladys was also a great lover and supporter of animals. Through the decades she had menageries of dogs, fish, and birds. There will be a celebration of her life from 4 pm to 6pm at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA., on Sunday, November 19. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or your local ASPCA.
