Born in 1948 to Gerald and Hilda Singer in Washington DC, he was a graduate of Wheaton High School (Maryland), Massachusetts Institute of Technology and The Harvard Business School.
In 1977 he began teaching Marketing at The American University (Washington DC) followed by a career in the homebuilding industry to include Ryland Homes and Crestwood Communities (Maryland and New Jersey). Later, he returned to research at Legg Mason (Baltimore), National Investment Council (Annapolis) and Delta Associates (Alexandria VA).
Retiring in 2008, he continued working on senior housing research with The American Senior Housing Association (Washington DC) and as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University.
Married to Jean Callahan since 1974, together they raised two sons in Maryland and New Jersey while summering each year in Owls Head. Harvey and Jean enjoyed retirement in Annapolis Maryland, Oahu Hawaii, and Williamsburg Virginia. Harvey loved boating, chamber music, exotic cars and the company of his family and wonderful friends. He enjoyed long walks to Annapolis Harbor, along the Ko’Olina lagoons, Colonial Williamsburg, the Camino de Santiago and the Irish countryside as well as daily summer walks to Owls Head Light.
Besides his wife, Jean, he is greatly missed by brother, Michael (Beth); sons, Daniel (Ellen) and Gregory; two adored grandsons Alexander and Nathan; and many nieces and nephews.
