Nécrologie de Helen M Baker
Helen M. (Garrett) Baker, 94, lifelong resident of Williamsburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2019. She is preceded in death by her husband, William P. Baker and three children, Joan B. McCartney, William David Baker, and Linda B. Moore. The seventh of eight children, she was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Avery Garrett, Sr.; and sisters, Texie Jacobson, Virginia Jacobson, Margaret Jacobson, and Elizabeth Williams. She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Donna Gizzarelli, William “Billy” Baker, Leisa Billups, Scott Moore, Janet Grimmett, Virginia “Genny” Baker, and Stacy Moore; as well as nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marjorie D. Baker and son-in-law, Jerry A. Moore; a sister Mabel G. Burleson of Williamsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Helen worked for a while in the cafeteria of Magruder Elementary School in York County, but ultimately retired from the Costume Department of Colonial Williamsburg, where she was a seamstress of ladies’ dresses. She enjoyed travelling with friends and family with such memorable trips as Niagara Falls, Hawaii, and Netherlands, as well as yearly trips to the Outer Banks. Helen loved country music and dancing. She was an avid bowler, bowling on leagues and in tournaments for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo. Going out to eat was another favorite pastime, although she was a great cook. She remained active into her 90s. A graveside service will take place at Williamsburg Memorial Park, on Wednesday, August 21 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive family and friends for a celebration of life at Olive Branch Christian Church in Toano immediately following. Special thanks to the staff of Chestnut Grove Assisted Living and the nurses of Henrico Doctors Hospital, Parham campus. With a funny sense of humor and easy laugh, she will be missed by all who knew her. While we will try to fill the hole in our hearts with warm memories, we are comforted in the assurance that she has been reunited with loved ones in Heaven and that we will see her again.
