Born on October 23, 1956, in Odense, Denmark, Holger was a devoted husband, son, brother, and uncle. He was known for always putting the needs of others before his own. Holger was a talented carpenter who loved working with wood and creating Danish designs. He had a keen eye for perfection and took great pride in his craftsmanship. Holger served proudly for the Danish military as part of the Danish UN Forces.
Holger had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and cared for them with great affection. He also had a passion for classic American cars and motorcycles and enjoyed restoring and maintaining them. Holger had a fondness for music from the 1950s and 1960s and found joy in listening to the timeless melodies. He was an avid traveler and had explored 32 states across the United States, accompanied by Kathy with Spike on his lap.
In 2018, Holger met his wife, Kathy, and they married on June 10th, 2020. They resided in New Hampshire, where Holger diligently updated their home, transforming it into the perfect country retreat. In 2021, Holger and Kathy purchased an apartment in Mariager, Denmark, where Holger worked on creating their dream retirement Holiday Home. In August 2022, they settled in Williamsburg, Virginia, embracing a new chapter in their lives.
Holger is survived by his sister, Ulla Mazanti Kristiansen, and niece, Kamilla Mazanti Kristiansen. Holger meant so very much to Ulla and Kamilla, there will be an enormous void in their lives without him. He came to their aid whenever they needed him. He loved helping Kamilla with her 5 horses and Ulla with her dogs, especially her street dog, Charly, who left a deep impression on Holger. Holger was the best brother and uncle one could ever wish for. He was preceded in death by his father, Flemming Hilbert Kristiansen, and mother, Gurli (Soerensen) Kristiansen.
Holger's educational journey began at Giersing Realskole, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors. He further honed his skills as a carpenter's apprentice, completing a four-year program. He was happy to help his Father with the family's fish shop in Odense as needed throughout his youth.
Holger was proud of the 200-year-old country farm outside of Odense where he lived for 15 years. During that time, he had a full-time carpentry job at GASA Odense where he was employed for 25 years. He had cows, bulls, pheasants, chickens and a tended to a small kitchen garden. He found a sense of peace at the end of a long workday feeding and taking care of his animals.
Holger Kristiansen will be remembered for his selflessness, his passion for woodworking, and his unwavering dedication to his loved ones. His legacy will live on through the beautiful creations he crafted and the memories he shared with those fortunate enough to have known him.
