

Jeanne Marie (Murphy) Samuelsen, 84, a resident of Williamsburg, died Sunday July 10, 2022, after a brief illness. She was in her home surrounded by those who loved her dearly. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Jeanne was a graduate of St. Bernard Academy. Jeanne began her career with the Tennessee Industrial Development Board after attending Peabody College for one year. She then proudly flew as a flight attendant with American Airlines and was based out of LaGuardia Airport in New York City. She met and married the love of her life, Alfred John Samuelsen, her spouse of 42 years, who preceded her in death. Together they created a loving family, and she is survived by her children: Bruce Evan Samuelsen and daughter-in-law, Mary-Ellen, of Stafford, Virginia, Lisa Gaye Hocking and son-in-law, Charles Hocking, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Kenneth Jon Samuelsen and daughter-in-law, Donna of Duryea, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Jeanne’s passion and upon whom she doted, they brought her much joy and happiness: Elizabeth, Jonathan, Christopher, and Alexandra Samuelsen; Samuel, James, and Joseph Hocking; and Abigail and Evan Samuelsen. She is also survived by brother Thomas Edward Murphy of Franklin, Tennessee; two sisters Ann West of San Antonio, Texas and Edna Sloyan of Fountain Hills, Arizona; and many beloved nieces and nephews. An additional beloved sister, Mary York of Nashville, Tennessee also preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2022, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. A funeral mass will be conducted at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. Burial will be at 12 noon July 22, 2022, at Calvary Cemetery, 1001 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, Tennessee.
