Joseph is survived by his devoted and dear wife, Suzanne, and their beloved sons, Andrew Joseph and Jeffrey Richard, who were the great pride and joy of his life. He was a cherished brother to Michael, David, Steve (Jackie), and sister, Debbie (O’Reilly). He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law: Elaine Hollenbeck (Barry) and the late David, Eloise Malone and the late Dave, Jeannine Janssen (David), Denise Giffin (Bob), and Richard Forgette (Karen). Many nieces, nephews, and friends enriched Joseph’s life, and they will remember him with deep affection.
A dedicated professional, Joseph served more than 25 years as a computer analyst for the Department of the U.S. Courts in Washington, D.C., where he was respected for his skill, strong work ethic, and integrity. After settling in Leesburg for over two decades, and later Williamsburg, he built a rich and fulfilling life surrounded by family, creativity, and the simple joys he cherished.
Joseph was a gifted painter, especially known for his remarkable detailed depictions of birds and the natural world. He enjoyed planning and traveling trips abroad, playing the guitar and had a lifelong enthusiasm for cars, gardening, and tackling home projects—approaching each with curiosity, care, and craft. He adored his pets and enjoyed walking them throughout Colonial Williamsburg. Joseph was an avid sports fan who loved watching games with his family and enjoyed following the news and world events.
Above all, Joseph will be remembered for his intense character and devotion to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in his family, in the art he shared, and in the quiet but profound ways he touched the lives of others.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, whose compassionate support brought peace and comfort to Joseph and his family in his final days.
