

Judith Southern Kane, 79, passed away on January 23, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born in Winston Salem, NC but grew up in Fries and Galax, VA. Judy graduated from the nursing school at the NC Baptist Hospital at Wake Forest. She retired as Head ER Nurse from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following 35 years of service. In 1997 she and her husband moved to Williamsburg to enjoy their retirement years. “Ju Ju” as she was fondly called by her grandchildren was a member of Bruton Parish Church and a volunteer for the Williamsburg Garden Club and Bruton Parish Gift Shop. She loved her home, gardening, and entertaining, but most of all she loved her family and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her dear mother Hazel Southern and father Colin Southern. Also by her devoted Aunt and Uncle Charlie and India Moore.
Left to cherish her memory is her childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 58 years, Sterling Kane; 3 children, Amy Kane Inge of Chesapeake, John Sterling Kane and Mary Beth Preas and her husband Clayton all of Williamsburg; and 5 grandchildren, Nicholas Inge, Jeremy Inge, Adam Kane, Samuel Preas and Della Brooke Preas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Bruton Parish Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, www.scleroderma.org. Condolences to the family can be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
