Linda W. Gustafson, wife of the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Gustafson, died on March 16 at Tampa Bay Hospital after a brief illness. She and her husband were longtime residents of Fords Colony in Williamsburg.
Having received her B.S. in Comprehensive Vocal Music, she taught music in Minnesota, and Massachusetts before receiving a M.S.LS. from Simmons College in Boston and thereafter directing libraries in Massachusetts, Delaware and Maine. She is a direct descendent of the Rosenstock School of Music at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. During her tenure as librarian in Maine, she was awarded the coveted Golden Gift status as a woman of "vision and action" in the Delta Kappa Gamma international sorority of women educators, an award which took place at the headquarters of DKG in Austin, TX. For that occasion, the international DKG choir, of which she was a participant, sang one of her compositions especially for that occasion.
After retiring to Williamsburg, she was active in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church as a member of the choir, the Board of Deacons, co-chair of the library committee, and an instructor in the new member classes. She also regaled children, parents, and others who stopped by each week during the Children's Hour at Barnes and Noble in Newtown through the use of her singing and various other vocal sounds and improvisations. She and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement and regularly spent winters in Naples, Fl on the Gulf.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 PM at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd. in Williamsburg, VA 23185.
