Nécrologie de Lorraine Alicia Cornwell
Lorraine Alicia Cornwell passed away peacefully of natural causes in her Williamsburg home on the morning of June 4, 2021 at 87 years old. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Harold V. Julian and Catherine Julian. Lorraine grew up in Valley Stream, NY, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Jim, and spent 68 wonderful years of marriage together. After traveling across the country and into Europe, they finally settled in Massapequa, NY where they raised their three children. They spent summers camping as a family across the beaches of Long Island including Hither Hills, Jones Beach, Montauk Point, and Knickerson Beach Park. She earned her Master’s degree in childhood education and worked as a substitute teacher and librarian. Lorraine and Jim relocated to Williamsburg, VA in 1994 where they subsequently spent their retirement years taking road trips together to Colonial Williamsburg, York River, and Virginia Beach, among others. She enjoyed literature, classical music, photography, art and traveling, and mastered the art of rug hooking, knitting and quilting. Her most fulfilling role however was being a supportive wife, a nurturing mother and grandmother, and a most trusted confidante to her family. She would dine frequently at Williamsburg’s Francesco’s Italian Restaurant, ordering Veal Francese which was always prepared especially for her by the chef. She also enjoyed Red Lobster dinners accompanied by Sutter Home Merlot wine. Known for her witty sense of humor and a smile that could brighten any room, she was a woman of great style and beauty that will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband (James Love Cornwell III); her first son and his children (James Love Cornwell IV, Katheryn Love, and Dylan James); her daughter and her family (Jill Anne Caponera, husband Anthony Caponera, and children William, Chelsea, Gianna, Daria, and Alexa); her second son and his family (John Julian Cornwell, wife Xi Yun, and grandson Clement); her brother (Harold Julian); and eleven nieces and nephews, and their children. She is also pre-deceased by her sister Catherine Motley. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 8th from 5 - 7pm at Nelsen’s Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
