It is with deep love and gratitude that I announce the passing of my wonderful mother, Marguerite “Maggie” Hendrickson, who left this world November 25, 2025 at the age of 94. She lived a long, full and beautiful life – one marked by kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved. Throughout her 94 years, she carried herself with courage and strength. She was a steady presence and a comforting voice to all who knew her. Her warmth drew people in, and her generosity made everyone feel seen, valued, and cherished, whether through a gentle word, a homecooked meal, or a listening ear. She gave endlessly and wholeheartedly.
Maggie was born in Granville, New York on July 10, 1931 and was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ann Dingman; brothers, Billy, Thomas, Donald, Robert and Raymond Dingman; sister, Elaine Curran; her first husband, Lawrence Copeland; her second husband, Gerry Hendrickson; son-in-law, Toby Sowers; granddaughter, Tina Meyer; and grandson, Jeremy Sowers.
She graduated from Robert E. Lee high school in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2006 she started a Red Hat Society chapter which continues to this day. Being with the Red hatters brought her much joy throughout her life. Maggie was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4639 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Maggie enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming, and thrifting. She would watch football with her granddaughter, Mandi—especially the KC Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
She loved being with family and friends, especially her sister, Carol, and travelling and exploring. She had been to every state in the US, except for Hawaii.
Maggie is survived by her daughter, Jan Sowers Flanagan (Greer Flanagan, who she adored!); granddaughter, Mandi Ladner, Grace Huie (Chris), Faith Wilmore (Alex) and a grandson Doug Pozzuolo; great-grandchildren, Ryan Meyer, Bryce Fenton, and Benji Fenton; sister and best friend, Carol Cazalos; special stepchildren and many nieces and nephews; and her beloved Shih Tzu, Dede.
Special thanks to the staff of Heartland Hospice and the Hospice House of Williamsburg for the wonderful care they provided.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Virginia on December 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Jacksonville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Maggie’s memory to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (https://williamsburghospice.org/).
