

She was preceded in death by her mother, Audie Neely Meador; father, Luther L. Meador; and brother, Larry L. Meador. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Messner.
Melba is survived by her brother, Charles E. Meador (Susan); sister, Diane M. Stoakley (David); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melba received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Bachelor of Education from the University of Hawaii. She then earned her Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
She was a teacher of Advanced Placement English and Speech at Bowie Senior High School in Bowie, Maryland for many years. She also worked as a Presidential Management Intern under the Jimmy Carter administration, and as a Director of Community Relations for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC.
Melba loved to read and travel. She lived in West Virginia, Virginia, Alabama, California, Hawaii and Maryland; and with her husband, Howard, she visited many countries around the world.
