
Myron “Mike” Thomas Scholberg, 84, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2018. Myron was born March 29, 1933 in Ortonville, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Ester Scholberg. He grew up on the farm and attended public school in Ortonville, graduating in 1951. After graduation from high school, Myron served in the U.S. Army; after being honorably discharged, he went on to attend the University of South Dakota, graduating with a B.S. Degree and a Masters of Education Degree in 1960. After graduation from the University, Myron taught science at a local high school in White, South Dakota from 1960 to 1964.
In 1964, Myron entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent and spent the next 21 years in the Bureau until he retired in 1985. Myron’s career with the FBI included field assignments as Special Investigator in Dallas, Amarillo and Los Angeles. In 1967, he was assigned to the Hair and Fiber Unit of the FBI Laboratory, Washington, D.C. Myron remained in the Unit for 18 years, serving as an Examiner until 1977, at which time he was promoted to Unit Chief. As the Unit Chief, Myron administered the day-to-day activities of the Hair and Fiber Unit and supervised 21 Special Agent Examiners, who were actively involved in examining items of evidence for hairs, fibers and related materials. During Myron’s career in the FBI Laboratory, he examined thousands of cases involving rape, murder and sexual assaults and testified in State, Local and Federal Courts throughout the country. He was also involved in instructing the FBI Intro to Hair and Fiber courses at the FBI Academy at Quantico, VA. In addition, Myron has given numerous speeches and presentations to Law Enforcement Groups throughout the World concerning his area of expertise. Myron received numerous accommodations and awards during his distinguished career with FBI.
After retiring from the FBI, Myron entered the private sector in his specialty, conducting examinations and providing consultation in cases from coast to coast in the United States. He was also employed during this time by the State of Virginia as a Forensic Scientist. Myron was a member of his church choir and the distinguished Williamsburg Choral Guild and will be remembered for his wonderful Tenor voice.
In 1965, Myron was united in marriage to Janet Thompson and three children were born to this marriage, Nancy, Patricia and Richard. In 1997, Myron married his current wife Bridget Alexander and resided in Williamsburg, Virginia until he passed away. Myron spent the last 20 years at Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg, VA, where he and his wife, Bridget, participated in community activities and enjoyed golfing, bowling and socializing with their many friends. Myron is survived by his wife Bridget and his three children, Nancy Scholberg, Richard Thomas Scholberg, Patricia Kay Scholberg-DeSantis, and stepdaughter, Bonnie Assarian, as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was loved by neighbors and friends and will be truly missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, Dec. 29 at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Rd., Wiliamsburg, VA (757-258-1070).
