Patrick Byron Moore

A child of God, Patrick was raised by his two loving parents, Peggy Hardy and Carroll Lee Moore III and lived his childhood in Poquoson, VA. Patrick graduated from Poquoson High School in 1989, enlisted in the US Navy and served our country for four years in Guam. Upon his return, he met and married Beth Moore, had a precious daughter, Savannah (recently married to Jon Putnam) then moved to Gloucester, VA as a Newport News police officer. Changing careers, Patrick obtained his Master’s in School Counseling to work at Matthews County and Williamsburg/JCC Public Schools for over 12 years. During his time at Lafayette High School, Patrick touched the lives of many a young person through his compassionate, kind, and loving spirit.

Recently, he met Carrie Lorraine Moore (née Anderson), moved to Williamsburg, and together they spent four amazing years raising step-sons, Carson and Caillou Collins, along with many dart frogs.

Patrick passionately loved life and learning: fixing cars, history and archeology, star gazing, fishing, boating, teaching gun safety, traveling to Gettysburg and Disney World, and raising fish and dart frogs. His favorite passion, however, was scuba diving. Patrick began diving at age 14 and logged over 1000 dives, exploring many WWII wrecks in Guam, North Carolina, and Florida.

He is survived by the close family members listed above as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws including the Moore, Tolbert, Cox, Barbour, Hardy, and Anderson families. He impacted so many countless friends and scuba buddies around the world as well as many staff and students from Lafayette High school.

Patrick is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents from the Cox, Moore and Hardy families and his cousin, Lee Hardy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9 from 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg. Services will also take place at Nelsen Funeral Home on Saturday, September 10, beginning with a morning viewing from 9 to 10:30am, followed by a service at 11am. Interment will take place at 1pm at Smith Cemetery in Poquoson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Patrick B. Moore Memorial Scholarship at Lafayette High School (more information will be forthcoming).
