

Philippia Hull Kyte, also known to many as Happy, age 48, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Happy was the wife of Russell Kyte and the daughter of Philip and Karol Hull. She is also survived by her two sisters, Nicole (Rich) and Melissa (Bryan); mother-in-law, Betty Kyte; sister-in-law, Karen (Mike); brothers-in-law, Greg (Debbie), John (Kathy) and Jason (Amber); aunts, Joan (Tom, dec), Barbara (Kenneth) and Dorothy (Ken). Other family members include one niece and eight nephews.
Loved ones who preceded her in death include her father-in-law, Martin Kyte; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hull and Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Willis; aunt, Dale Willis; uncle, Thomas Herron; nephew, Adam Kyte; and cousin, Chuck Herron.
Happy was a graduate of Longwood College with a degree in Fine Arts. She belonged to the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha social sorority and also to the honorary art fraternity Kappa Pi. Happy worked in interior design and in construction project management. She enjoyed art, gardening, and caring for her baby girl Newfoundland dog, Piper.
The family and Happy are indebted to her caregivers from the first cancer 12 years ago, the IVIG team in the interim and especially to her home-hospice team for the past 14 months. Those dedicated to her care include Polly, R.N, plus Alecia, Candy, and Tara.
Services and visitation will be at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 2-3 PM. The Rev. Stephen Wiley will conduct services and Mrs. Greta Lyons will provide music. The burial ceremony will be later at the family plot of Bluemont Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. Stewart Childress. The historic rock church is located at MM 192 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home of Hillsville is in charge of arrangements there.
