

A native of Kearny, NJ, he was the son of Adele M. and John F. Grace. A 1941 graduate of Fordham University, he was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Lieutenant in the US Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres, followed by service in the US Naval Reserve. He earned the Virginia CPA certificate in 1950 and worked ten years for the firms of A. Lee Rawlings & Co. and Waller and Woodhouse, both of Norfolk. He retired in 1986 as Treasurer, after serving 30 years at Portsmouth Lumber Corporation.
He was a charter member and former president of the Torch Club of Portsmouth, former member of the Rotary Club, Portsmouth Assembly, board member and treasurer of the Girls' Club, chairman of the Portsmouth Library Board, board member and treasurer of the Portsmouth Public Library Foundation, secretary of the Swimming Point League, and chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce.
He was the husband of Barbara Drewry Grace. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Diana and Dr. Joseph Sack of Laconia, NH, Ellen Jaronczyk of Williamsburg, VA, and Eva Marie and Brett Shedd of Silver Spring, MD; grandsons, William and Guy Sack, Morgan and Forrest Hobbs, and John Shedd; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth to remember Dick.
