Richard S. Strzelecki

Dick was born to Stephen and Sophia Strzelecki in Detroit, MI. He was educated locally at St. Andrew High School, where he served as president of the student council. After graduation, he moved to Boston, MA where he attended MIT. Dick graduated with a BS in Physics and a MS in Nuclear Engineering. Upon graduation, he entered service into the U.S. Army with the Nuclear Engineer Research Division during the Korean Conflict. In 1961, he resigned his commission as a 1st Lieutenant to focus on his corporate career. Dick worked in advanced power systems for multiple large corporations including Martin Marietta, GM, Westinghouse, and GE where he became Senior Vice President of special energy projects. He retired from GE in 1994 to establish his own consulting firm, Global Power Financing, LLC. Dick continued to work in the power systems industry through his consulting firm for the next 22 years. International travel was a requisite for his job and Dick earned over 7 million airline miles throughout the course of his career.

Dick was first and foremost, a family man scheduling his international travel around his children’s extracurricular events and weekends with his family. He was an enthusiastic sportsman – serving as Captain and goalie to the MIT Hockey team his 4 under-graduate years, and as a coach during his graduate studies. Dick was an avid lacrosse, tennis, squash, and platform tennis player throughout his life. But skiing was his all-time favorite pastime. Nothing could keep Dick off the ski slopes. He would often proudly recount the time he skied in -40-degree weather.

Dick was a passionate man with many interests and hobbies from his fraternity, Delta Upsilon, to a love of travel, his dogs, the University of Michigan football, cars, antiques and especially Persian rugs.

Dick was a kind man and a true gentleman who loved his family to excess. He was a man of faith and proudly served on committees at his church, Bruton Parish. Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan M. Strzelecki, his children, Richard S. Strzelecki, Jr., Winnie S. Boyle, and his son-in-law, Michael D. Boyle.

Visitation hours will be from 5-7pm on Friday, January 25th at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. Funeral service and burial will be at Bruton Parish Church, 331 W. Duke of Gloucester St., Williamsburg, VA, Saturday, January 26th, at 2:00 pm.
