She was born in Hoschton, GA on February 10, 1939. She is survived by her husband, Sam Daniel, her daughter, Mona King, her niece, Laura Cobetto and other relatives in Virginia and Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father, Julius McEver, her mother, Lucy McEver, her sister, Judy Stapleton Heichel, and her son-in-law, Arlan King.
She began life on a farm with no indoor plumbing or electricity. The family moved to Atlanta when she was six, and that move shaped her life for the future with better educational opportunities and cultural exposure.
She studied voice for eight years, won two high school state championships for voice, and planned to go to Julliard. She changed her mind and direction. She enrolled at Mercer University and met her husband, Sam. This was another key decision that, like leaving the farm, changed her life.
She graduated from Mercer University in Macon, GA in 1960. At Mercer, she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Following graduation, she pursued advanced studies, and taught in Germany and various US cities while accompanying her husband during military and corporate moves. She also taught communication skills to executives and was a regional training director for Weight Watchers in Houston. She also directed church choirs for years. Robbye and Sam's move from Greenwich, CT to Williamsburg was the last of many moves during 58 years of marriage.
Robbye had a lifelong passion for Bridge and for life. She actively participated in civic, preservation, historical and other philanthropic groups in each city she called home. She was very active with the Worcester Center for Experimental Biology in Worcester, MA in raising money to support scientists coming there for advanced research.
Her quick wit, easy charm, and ability to relate to people will be missed by family, friends, and those who knew her.
She loved pets her entire life. Please direct any donations to the Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg.
There will be a memorial celebration for Robbye on October 11, from 5:30-7:30 at Mounts Bay Recreation Center, 101 Tutters Neck in Kingsmill.
Condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
Arrangements under the direction of Nelsen Williamsburg, Williamsburg, VA.
