With heavy hearts, we share the peaceful passing of Roger Walter Smith of Williamsburg, VA on January 19, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Cleveland, OH to Walter and Florence (Santone) Smith and will be forever remembered and loved as our kind and caring, enduring rock; for his integrity and faith and for his subtle sense of humor.
We honor Roger’s 28 years of military service upon graduating from the US Naval Academy with a BS in Naval Science. His naval career began in submarine service and then Naval Postgraduate School for Computer Systems. He went on to serve as a supervising officer in areas of naval shipbuilding and repair, and held the rank of Captain at the time of his retirement. Roger ventured on to residential real estate which he said was his “hobby” and enjoyed being an agent but enjoyed even more, real estate education. He was well-respected by colleagues, clients and students alike and was dedicated to helping all. He also enjoyed travel across the US and abroad with his wife and leaves a keepsake of photographs to cherish.
Roger leaves behind his bride of 62 years, Marjorie, his three daughters and their families; Sharon (John) Fallacara, Debra (Andrew) Foret and Stephanie (Michael) Cooper and his grandchildren; Andrew, Shelby (Matthew), Megan, Jacob, Logan and Aaron. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Smith and his brothers Timothy (Susan) Smith and Stephen Smith and many dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Smith and his mother, Florence Smith.
In keeping with Roger’s wishes, a private family celebration of life is planned for May.
Please share a note or your fondest memory of Roger and consider a living tribute with a tree planting at one of our US National Forests so desperately in need of revitalization.
