

He was the husband of Judith McDonald Mackay for 30 years. He is also survived by his children, Heather Mackay Mason of East Greenwich, RI and Brendan R. Mackay of Framingham, MA; his step-children, Amy K. Zuniga of Williamsburg, VA and Jay Kelly of Downingtown, PA; his grandchildren Hope and Benjamin Mason, Sebastian and Valentina Mackay, Olivia and Emily Zuniga, and Julia and Charlotte Kelly. Hope McDonald Mackay predeceased him in 1992.
Ronald was the son of Vyvan and Dorothy (Quinn) Mackay and the loving grandson of David and Arabella Quinn and Vyvan and Lenore Mackay.
A graduate of New England School of Mortuary Science and The University of Massachusetts, he compassionately dedicated his career to honoring those he helped.
He was a United States Army Veteran with Military Intelligence during the Vietnam era, 1964-1967.
He joined the Shake-a-Leg Organization in Newport, RI, where he was a Certificated Sailing Instructor and was lovingly known as "Captain Ron". The non-profit offered people with disabilities the freedom to sail.
Ronnie never saw a beach he didn't love. His favorite was Warrens Point in Little Compton, RI. He proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Warren's Point Beach Club for 12 years.
He served on the Vestry and as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Trinity Church in Tiverton, RI. Cooking, traveling to Goult in the South of France, and music, "Beetles to Beethoven" were his delights. He could listen to several bars of music and identify the piece.
A memorial service was held at the Bruton Parish church in Colonial Williamsburg, VA followed by a Military Honors Ceremony. Memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
