Rosalyn lived in Brooklyn, New York until age 17, when she entered what would become a 58 year marriage to Franklin Salzman and immediately moved to Washington state where Frank began working for the U. S. Forest Service.
During the early years of marriage, “Roz” devoted most of her energies to raising three kids, keeping an immaculate home, cooking delicious, nutritious meals, and supporting their local synagogues as the family moved frequently- making their way from Utah, to Virginia, to Maryland, to Pennsylvania, and back to Maryland. Multi-talented, Roz worked outside the home, too. She worked in a school cafeteria, was a bookkeeper, worked at the National Legal Center for a time, and even had her own babysitting business. The Salzmans moved to Williamsburg in 1998 where Roz played critical support roles in running their Ben & Jerry’s stores, volunteered with Frank at Child Development Resources, joined local women’s clubs and bridge groups, and became an active member of Temple Beth El.
Surviving family members include her son, Leon Salzman of Williamsburg, her daughter, Bonnie Sosin of Boyds, Maryland, her daughter, Ivy Jill Azizi of Beverly Hills, California; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Honorary family members, Mykhaylo and Olga Poshyvanyk lived with and lovingly cared for Roz and her little dog Gigi full-time for three years starting in October of 2020.
Funeral services were coordinated by Nelsen’s Funeral Home at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula in Hampton on Sunday, January 7th, with Rabbi Ellen Jaffe-Gill presiding.
