Richard proudly served in the US Army, retiring after 21 years. Throughout his life he volunteered in many organizations, such as the Jaycees, athletic boosters, and as a Boy Scout leader. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as Commander and Quartermaster for many years. He had the pleasure of taking part in Honor Flight, as a Veteran and twice as a guardian. He enjoyed organizing events for the organizations that he took part in, such as the Red Cross blood drives hosted by the VFW. Richard was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, volunteering as the “dishwasher” for the monthly breakfasts.
He was an avid bicyclist, enjoyed hiking, camping, and always making time for his family and friends. Richard loved to travel, taking many trips with his wife. He enjoyed a good laugh, always joking.
Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Zick; his children, Stephanie Tackett (Randy), and Jason Zick (Kimberly); and grandchildren, Dakota, Willow, and Colby.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 12, 2025, at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA at 1:00 PM.
