On Monday, March 11, 2024, Sheila Custis Compisi, this incredible, strong, feisty woman – Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Great-Aunt, friend and all-around force of nature left us. The cancer that shocked us to the core was far too strong for her to overcome. We are most grateful that this journey – though painfully short for us – was short for her as well. She faced this head on making the decision to forego the terrible treatment and spend her time with us. Her sense of humor remained intact (Dr: We’re going to give you meds to ensure you are comfortable. Sheila: Make mine a double!). Her unwavering love sustained us during these days of grief leading up to the unfathomable grief of her loss. We know her beloved Richard Compisi was waiting for her, hand out to hold hers as he always did. Her parents, grandparents and others that went before her were so happy to see her as she is now with them. We will miss her forever. Life will never be the same. Our lives are infinitely better because of her. Rest well Mom – We love you.
Sheila was born in Morehead City, North Carolina on May 30, 1944. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas West and Prudie Fulcher Custis; her grandparents, William and Stella Custis, Nolie and Naomi Fulcher; and her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Compisi.
Sheila is survived by her children, Kerry O’Neill, and Jim (Becky) O’Neill; grandchildren, Cameron O’Neill, Dustin (Sarah) Barnes and family, Jessica Barnes; sister, Deborah (George) Davis; nephew, Scott (Alana) Davis and family; as well as many other family members and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society (https://americancancerfund.org/donate/) are appreciated.
