

In June 1972, Duane earned his Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science at VPI/Virginia Tech. He had a distinguished career for numerous medical/ hospital distribution companies as Director of Sales and regional management, retail sales, retiring in March 2020.
Duane lettered in baseball and played football for Floyd High School. He loved all kinds of history, especially the civil war era, known for his memory of dates and events, and always having original chapstick in his pocket. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time in Mack's Mountain with family.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Charlotte Ann Phillips, whom he married April 22, 1972; his brother, Kevin Phillips (Melinda); daughters, Katina Phillips Rice (Jake) and Andrea Phillips Martin (Gary); son, Steven Duane Phillips, Jr. (Wendy); 10 grandchildren, Jacob Rice (Alex), Lucas Rice, Kimberly Baker (Dylan), Lane Thompson, Talyn Phillips, Braylyn Phillips, Allen Gaines (Katelynn), Kyle McAllister, Brett Martin and Brooke Howard (Nathan); and 10 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, and beloved family members and friends.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Virginia on February 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM.
