Thalia was born on July 8, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois and was the only child of Donald Warren Carlson and Reba Culler Carlson, who are deceased. She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Robert Earl Stilson; her two children, Pamela Lynne Rogers and her husband, James Rogers of Leesburg, Virginia, and Todd Carlson Stilson and his wife, Stephanie Stilson of Kennesaw, Georgia; and their three loving grandchildren – Robert Stilson, Scott Stilson, and Ashley Rogers; and her great-grandchildren, Henry and James Stilson.
Although her mother and father moved many times during her childhood, she remembered those years as loving and happy. Following her 1952 graduation from high school in Terre Haute, Indiana, Thalia entered nurse’s training at Fairview Park Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and practiced nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, Terre Haute, Indiana, and Atlanta, Georgia.
While in Terre Haute, she met the love of her life and best friend Robert (Bob) Stilson. She married Bob on December 29, 1956 and together they began a lasting and beautiful marriage. They made their first home in Atlanta, Georgia while Bob was in the US Army. Bob then joined IBM and over the years they moved to Dayton, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, New Canaan, Connecticut and finally Williamsburg, Virginia.
They are members of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, where they have worshipped, shared a growing faith and enjoyed numerous friendships for the last 25+ years. She dearly loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Thalia had many interests, and was a loyal and trusted friend to all who knew her. Her many friendships, which span the years, will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. She never missed an opportunity to show kindness and made everyone feel valued and loved.
A memorial service will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church at 12:00 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2025 with a reception to follow for family and friends. A private committal will take place at Williamsburg Memorial Park. For those wishing to do so, are asked to make a donation to King of Glory Lutheran Church 4897 Longhill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
