Wayne Irvine, 85 of Williamsburg, Virginia, died peacefully at his home, on August 16, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. He is survived by his devoted family, including his wife Carolyn of 61 years, his children and their families, Michael and Vivian Irvine, Todd Irvine, and Susan and Jeff Dunko. Wayne was happiest when spending time with his cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Irvine and Tres Currie, Ryan Irvine and Casey de Franceaux, Eric and Ashley Irvine, Chadric Irvine, Patrick, Jeremy and Seth Dunko. Wayne was overjoyed and beamed with his great-grandchildren Grayson, Heidi and Chloe Currie, and Tanner and Berkley Irvine. Wayne had faith in Jesus Christ and his church. He was baptized by his grandfather in the Cowpasture River at eight years old and had been a longtime member of the Walnut Hills Baptist Church. Wayne was predeceased by his parents William and Madge Irvine, and his siblings William Irvine and Jenny Wilhelm. He leaves behind two siblings Myrna Cash, Jerry Irvine and his wife Virginia, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Wayne served his country in the Army and Army reserves and spent many of his years as a bridge engineer for CSX Railroad where he retired. Wayne loved football, strawberry milkshakes and the thrill of riding roller coasters with his children and grandchildren. Wayne was passionate about fishing and would smile with joy at even the tiniest of sunfish he would catch. He loved walking and just sitting on the beach enjoying the sun and waves. Most of all, Wayne enjoyed spending time with those he loved. Wayne was a pillar of strength, recognized for his calm presence, and unwavering faith. His devotion and love to his family will always be remembered. A funeral service will be held on September 14 at 11:00 AM at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185. A graveside service will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434, on September 16 at 3:00 PM.
