Betty Marie Logenburg Lay passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 2:00pm in the Willows at Okemos. Betty was an alert 91 years old and enjoyed lively conversations, bringing joy to all she met. She was taking piano lessons until recently and was practicing “Mood Indigo.”
If there is anything Betty will be remembered for it is her dedication to church and her family of four children. A longtime member of the South Church of the Nazarene and Unity Churches in Lansing, her faith helped her though many hardships in life. She modeled this faith to her family and friends by often finding the sunny side of a cloudy situation. She surprised many by her resilience and positive outlook when life presented a challenge.
A second-generation German born on October 2nd, 1930, to immigrants in Akron, Ohio, she spent most of her life growing up in the hills of western Pennsylvania. A place she loved and longed for very much. She never missed a Frenchville picnic in PA that was always a big thing. She loved to roller skate and was always writing stories and kept up a rabbit cartoon. After graduating from Clearfield High School in 1948, Betty went to Business School in York, PA. In 1951 she moved with her family to Lansing, Michigan, where she worked as a legal secretary. She met her husband George in a class at Michigan State and they were married in 1959.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Marie Logenburg, husband George Howard Lay, and daughter Kathy (Shepherd) Lay. Surviving is her sister Inge Logenburg (Kyler) and Art, daughters Bonnie Lay, Laurie (Rotta) Lay, Alexis Lay; and son Ronald and Jinny Lay; niece Heidi and nephews Stephen and Glenn; and many much beloved grandchildren.
Funeral service is scheduled on Monday, February 7, at 11:00am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home at their Williamston Chapel. Visiting time will be from 10:00-11:00am.
