Dennis was born on January 7, 1941 in Lansing, Michigan to Lorraine Jean Emery (Spragg) and Evart Leroy Emery. Dennis graduated from Okemos High School in 1960, and was married to his beloved wife of 60 years Sandra Kay Emery (Graves) on March 10, 1962. He honorably served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 in the 628th Transportation Company in Fort Hood Texas as a Sargent E-5.
Dennis retired after 30 years of service as a metal finisher at GM (Lansing), then worked at Sam’s Club and the Lansing West Holiday Inn for many years to keep himself busy while retired.
After living on Lake Lansing in Haslett for a while then moving to Kent Street in Okemos, Denny and Sandy then built their home in Jamestown subdivision in Okemos, where they lived for 50 years before moving to Provision Living in East Lansing. Dennis absolutely loved fishing. Being on the lake was his favorite place. He loved listening to country western music and racing of all types. He spent many years camping with close friends and cruising around in his custom golf carts, and enjoyed his membership with the Oldsmobile Outdoor Club and loved hunting with his work buddies. You could always find him watching westerns or football games with his dogs by his side and eating his stashed chocolate. Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always delivered the funniest one-liners. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Emery; children Daniel Emery (Tammy), Deanna Dropiewski (Kenneth), and Debora Johnston (Nathan); grandchildren Ashley Pankowski (Nicholas), Davison Emery (Taylor), Kenna Dropiewski, Ellory Johnston; great grandchild Beau Daniel Pankowski; siblings Connie Wickens, Richard Emery (Kathryn); and twelve nieces and nephews, all of whom loved Uncle Denny.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Lorraine and Evart Emery; sister Carol Jean (Penny) Henderson; and grandparents Rose Jean Spragg, Harry Spragg, Ruth Chivington, and Harold Emery.
