He was born on February 19, 1940, to Milo and Phoebe Smith. Remarkably, George was born on the same land that he passed away on, and the family home was a place that remained deeply meaningful to him throughout his life.
After graduating from Webberville High School in 1962, George proudly served in the United States Army for two years, during which he was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he built a long and dedicated career with General Motors as a team coordinator and was a proud member of the UAW.
Farming was George’s lifelong passion. Whether tending to livestock or working the fields, he found purpose and joy in the land he called home.
George is survived by his brother, Ivan (Mary) Smith; nieces and nephews, Daniel Smith, Amy Smith, Terry Smith, and Lynn Arend; and his dear friends, Tricia and Keith Moilanen. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Shirley, L. Chad, and Christopher; nieces and nephews, Lee, Perry, and Kendra; and his parents.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Williamston Chapel, 205 E Middle St., Williamston, MI, 48895. Following the service, George will be laid to rest in North Stockbridge Cemetery, 5239 M-36, Stockbridge, MI, 49285.
