I was just thinking about Mr. Lindsey the other day.  I have a new appreciation for him as a band director now that I have a middle schooler in band myself.   He was always a pillar of the Haslett band community and I value the lessons learned from him to this day.  

Eternal rest Grant onto Him, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Mr. Lindsey was one of the best teachers I have ever encountered.  He really loved his students and helping them learn and appreciate music.  I looked forward to band in middle school and and high school. His enthusiasm and pure passion showed through. My fondest and best memory of him was when the Haslett High School marching band had the honor of marching in Disney World.  We were all the The House of Blues and some Jimmy Buffet came on and he was rocking his parrot head hat and him partying like a rock star in front of everyone.  That man was one of the best educators of my life and it saddens me that his life was cut short. When they say the good die young they mean it. Mr.Lindsey is rocking in heaven with all of the joy and happiness he gave the world and his students. He really was a hero to me and I know many others.

I was so saddened to learn of Mr. Lindsey's passing. I had the great good luck to be one of his band students at Williamston High School (class of 1979), and he was a gifted teacher from the beginning: patient, kind, great sense of humor, and a clear passion for music. My deepest condolences to the Lindsey and Mason families.

He changed lives! He gave so many of us a love for music and the skills to share his gift with the world. I can't imagine my life if Greg Lindsey didn't start me off playing trombone in 5th grade. It has lead to Marching band, making countless friends, playing in  jazz and funk in a college band, writing my own music, and enjoying music. Not for a paycheck but for pure life's joy. I truly realize how much fun, and love that stemmed from him... the originator... the beginning of something new and creative. Something that continues and can never die. We didn't all become professional musicians but many did. We didn't all sound very good learning the basics and squeaking and squaking, but that's how wonderful things start and grow. Great things always need to have a beginning, and he was that for so many. Thank You! 

My thoughts and prayers have been with you, since hearing of the sudden and severe health struggles of  your beloved husband and father.  He will be sorely missed by all of you, I'm sure.  He must have created many loving memories to be cherished long into the future .  I will continue thinking of all of you, especially on the day of the funeral.

I will never forget the times he would stare at me and my brother during concert band as we were goofing around and hitting eachother. Literally, he would watch as one punched the other, smile and shake his head. All without stopping the song. (We never missed a beat either.)

Mr Lindsey was a good man, a gentle teacher.  I remember his soft sense of humor as he worked with us at band camp and throughout the marching band season,  during class and beyond.  He is part of my best memories from Haslett schools.  Bless you Mr. Lindsey, I will look forward to seeing you in heaven!

Greg was one of the kindest, funniest, most sincere and genuine people I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I only knew if for a few years when we worked at Meridian Winds together, but I think of him often. The world could use more people like Greg in it. He will be missed dearly.

I remember in 5th grade when Mr. Lindsey visited Murphy and had us try the different instruments - the clarinet seemed like it was the only one that fit well. He assured me that if I worked hard the first 6 months, I could play the saxophone. His genuine care and interest helped me meet this goal. Mr. Lindsey always kept us to a high standard. 

Mr. Lindsey seemed like Mr. Holland - humble, a hard worker,  a great educator, who when you saw his smile, you knew you did something right.

Thank you and Rest In Peace Mr. Lindsey - my condolences to his family. Your positive influence will always remain with me.  

I went to Dondero with Greg.  I graduated in 1974 and went into the Army. I eventually became a band director with the help of Dr. Joe Parker.  We had some great memories at Dondero!  I am a tuba player so go low brass! Greg will be missed.  I teach in Scottville over by Ludington.  My prayers are with the family.

Mr. Lindsey took good care of my boys while they were in band at Haslett.  He was always so kind and caring.  Our entire family offers our sympathies.  The Mathias Family

So sorry to hear of your loss of Mr. Lindsey. He was a great teacher and asset to the Haslett Band program, both at the middle and high school. (I graduated in 1990). We learned a lot from him and always appreciated his love of music and wanting us to be our best.  He will be missed and I hope your family can find peace knowing his great influence on so many of us over the years. He was truly a wonderful man.

My heart goes out to the family of Mr Lindsey.  He was a kind man and an inspiring musician.  I had the honor of learning from him for 2 years when he was directing at Haslett High School.   May his memory be eternal.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Greg was a strong supporter of the Young Church.  I was truly blessed to meet and work with him and all of you while I served at St. Mary’s. I truly appreciated the generous support shown me.

Heartfelt condolences and our most sincere sympathies to Laura and the rest of the family.  Remember him often, smile when you do, and continue to make him proud.

I am so sorry!   He was one of my first band directors in Williamston in the early 1980’s, and I continued to see him from time to time at MSU alumni band events. He was a wonderful person.  I became a band director as well.  I will forever be grateful for the  teaching and the foundation I received from Greg and his colleague Ted Thompson.   

Laura, Katie, Sandy, Alex, I'm so shocked and saddened to hear of Greg's passing. We first met when I was a new choir director at the Williamston schools, and our "offices" were near each other. He always had encouraging words and a ready smile. We all went on many solo and ensemble excursions together, didn't we! I know he will be sorely missed, and my deepest sympathy is sent to you all. 

Our sincere condolences at the loss of Greg.  He was a kind and caring teacher and a significant part of our three kids lives.  He will be greatly missed for all he did.

My condolences to all Mr. Lindsey's family, friends, and students. I learned a lot from Mr. Lindsey in band (Williamston class of 1981). I played trombone, too, and he helped us set up a trombone pep band and coached the trombone quartet I was in.  He was a great teacher.


I have great memories of Mr. Lindsey as part of Williamston HS band, especially marching band (class of 82).   As a fellow trombone player, he made it a lot of fun.  He really made that an enjoyable and memorable experience.  

My deepest condolences Laura, Katie,  Sandy and Alex (and your spouses & children) at the loss of your husband, father and grandfather.  I also send my love and sympathy to my cousins, his in-laws, Cindy Evans, Martha York, Paul Mason, Greg Mason, Denise Diederich and their spouses and children. He has been a member of our extended family for almost four decades and my memories of Greg are always of a ready smile and a quick wit without ever being boisterous or obnoxious. He will be missed!

I was shocked and deeply saddened to see Greg’s obituary.  He was a wonderful friend. I played trombone with Greg in the Symphony band and orchestra at RO Dondero HS.  Our parents shared driving duties to earl.y morning sectional practices.  I met his dad that way.  He was an almost exact older version of Greg.  What I remember most about Greg was his kindness and even tempered nature. He rarely got angry.  I think I only once saw him blow his top, which surprised the heck out of me !  We stayed a bit connected while we both stiudied at MSU. He even borrowed my trombone (entry level purchased when I was in the 4th grade) to use in the marching band. By that time he had a nice instrument (I think a Bach) and didn’t want to risk damaging it. I was happy to oblige.  Great friend, great man.

Sending our deepest sympathies to the Lindsey Family. Mr. Lindsey had a significant impact on my life as the Haslett Middle School Band Teacher and continuing into High School as he assisted with the band program. No matter what challenges were put in front of him during my tenure in the program, he always kept focus on his passion for music and love of teaching. It was a pleasure having Greg as a teacher, but also getting to know him more during high school and while helping out with band camps. I truly appreciated his quiet, witty humor. 

I ran across a photo the other day of our 2005 band trip to St. Louis, MO where he was challenging a student to Dance Dance Revolution while outfitted in an entirely green sweat suit. It made me genuinely smile that he wasn't afraid to cut loose with students and be silly every now and again. Greg leaves behind a significant, positive mark on our community and will be missed greatly as an educator, mentor and friend. Sending many positive thoughts during this difficult time.

Greg was always a man of integrity and it was a honor to teach with him at Williamston Community Schools. I was fortunate to teach his three remarkable children in my English class--Katie, Sandy, and Alex.  What a wonderful family! I am so sorry about your loss. Your dad enhanced the world not only with music but with his love and faith.

I am so sorry to hear this :( I played trombone from 6th grade until graduation (2005) and Mr. Lindsey always made it enjoyable. He was one of those teachers that had the very special ability to be stern when needed but also fun, which made everyone I knew have the utmost respect for him (which is a tough thing to accomplish as a junior high/high school teacher!). One year one of our drum majors dressed up as him for Halloween band (see photo). :) 

I always remembered he taught us to breathe by laying on the floor and putting a tissue box on his stomach area, demonstrating how when you breathe correctly the tissue box goes up and down.

I am so very sad to hear of Greg’s passing, and send my condolences to all of you who are his cherished family.  I grew up with Greg on North Wilson  in Royal Oak, and knew him all through our years in Lockman, Keller, and Dondero as well as through my years in Orchestra.
My favorite memory, though, has to be when we were about four years old, playing cowboys and Indians.  In the inscription on the back of his senior picture, he wrote, “To my favorite Ma Squaw.”  In today’s world this may not be politically correct, but to us in 1957, I accepted that as high praise indeed. I will hold close the memories  of so many Halloweens and Orchestra concerts we shared.  Rest in everlasting peace, Greg.

I remember Greg from Dondero as such a nice guy. Always said hello with a smile...He was a nice memory from so long ago. Condolences to his family.

Lindsey family,  please accept my condolences. I was a student in Mr. Lindsey's 5th grade and middle school band classes in the early 1990s.  Mr. Lindsey looms large in my memories of 5th-8th grade. Music was formative for many of us, so those teachers were very influential.  I remember his loopy sense of humor and his insistence that we get it right---young as we were. Playing in any kind of ensemble remains one of the joys of my life, and I have Mr. Lindsey to thank for introducing me to that.  Your family will be in my thoughts.

I played trumpet in the Haslett High School marching band from 1992 to 1996. As a fifth grader, it was Mr. Lindsey who matched me to the instrument I came to love so much, although I thought the flute would be better (he was right). Over the years, he patiently taught me a love for music.

 I will always remember Mr. Lindsey out there on the field running us through drills over and over, laughing at our goofy high school jokes, and just being a positive presence for us. He formed us into better people. 

May he and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. 

Sorry for your loss. Mr Lindsey was an excellent instructor and human being. I respected his teachings while progressing through Haslett's music program from the start till graduation in 2001. He will be truly missed. Mike Bailey, former trumpet player.
