Jane (Janie) Anne Ganton, age 78, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully from Lymphoma surrounded by her family on March 12, 2025, at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing.
Born on September 6, 1946, in Pontiac, Michigan, Janie’s life was a garden seeded with blossoms of hard work, familial devotion, cherished friendships, support for her community, a "handy woman," known for her do-it-yourself approach to home repairs and projects, and a strength that characterized her every being. A dedicated employee, Janie devoted over 20 impactful years to Consumer’s Energy where she was a Meter Reader, Gas Distribution Linewoman, and Customer Gas Service Repairwoman. She loved hard work and didn’t hesitate to get into it to fix that gas leak. Janie later retired and transitioned to work within Williamston Community Schools in their food service department. She enjoyed interacting with the children from grade school up through high school, ensuring they ate properly and were greeted with a helping hand and loving smile. Her commitment to supporting the children and their activities was unquestionable and was matched by her dedication to her family, as she led a life filled with a profound sense of responsibility, joy and nurturing. Educated in the Williamston Community Schools, Janie remained a woman of spirit, tenacious grit, passion for life and a smile that lit up the room. She possessed a big heart that spoke volumes through her actions.
She treasured her family dearly, playing the role of an exemplary mother and her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, Lesia (Jeff) Lonier, Jennifer (Steve) Graham, Timothy (Amy) Ganton, and Tess (Jeff) Delany. She is the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren Rachel Lonier, Brian Ganton, Paige Lonier, Michael Delany, Madeline Ganton, Conner Graham, Matthew Delany and Trevor Graham, each of whom she adored and enriched with her unwavering love and guidance. Janie also leaves behind a cherished brother, Timothy (Carol) Cogswell, alongside nieces-in-law and nephews who will carry fond memories of her dedicated presence and gentle nature. Within Janie's heart, there was always room for more love to share, and she did so abundantly throughout her life.
Her pursuits in life extended beyond her work and family, as she found joy in gardening, golfing, softball, bowling, socializing with friends, and watching her grandchildren engage in sports or musical functions. These interests provided her with treasured moments that touched many as she shared in those experiences.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edwin Roy and Bonnie Cogswell, her daughter Kimberly Anne Ganton and her grandson Aaron Blake Lonier. Her spirit, characterized by hard work, familial love, endless friendships, contagious laughter, and stopping to smell the flowers will shine brightly in the lives of those who remain, as they carry forward her memory with honor and affection.
