Joshua McKinney was born November 24, 1992 in Royal Oak, Michigan and went home to our Heavenly Father on July 10, 2015 in Taos, New Mexico at the age of 22.
Joshua was the son of George (Kim) McKinney and Anne (Mark) Hoeffler. Joshua attended grade school in Clawson, MI, attended Clarkston middle school and graduated from Clarkston High School in 2010. He was actively involved with orchestra playing the Viola, active in Christian youth groups, and an avid inventor/tinkerer of all things mechanical. After graduation, Joshua traveled and explored extensively throughout Michigan and southern and southwestern United States before settling in Taos, New Mexico. Joshua loved his music, rarely would you see him without his guitar in hand and he always seemed to have a new song that he had written to share/perform. Joshua’s other loves included hunting & fishing (especially with his dad), traveling and cooking for his family & friends, in all of which he excelled.
Joshua was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Denzil Gilbert (1994) and Robert McKinney (2015). Surviving to cherish his memory are his parents; sisters, Samantha McKinney, Chelsea McKinney & Sara Ley; brother, Jacob McKinney; grandmothers, Marlene McKinney & Doris Gilbert; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial celebration of life service & luncheon will be held Saturday, July 25th at 11 a.m. at the Webberville United Methodist Church, 4215 E Holt Rd., Webberville with Pastors Richard Foster, Paul Damkoehler and Brad Hulcy officiating.
Joshua bravely battled with mental illness for many years so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) of Livingston County in memory of Joshua McKinney. NAMI Livingston County; PO Box 161, Hartland, MI 48353-0161.
