Muriel Savina Van Riper

Muriel was born on March 22, 1916 in Williamston, Michigan and went to be with her Lord on July 25, 2012. Muriel was a 1934 graduate of Webberville High School. She was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Keenager’s Kitchen band. Muriel also loved going to the Jamborees with her good friend Ruthie. She was a loving Grandmother and enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, camping, traveling, and reading. She also liked to play Bunco and was an original member of Rumpus Club. In her later years she attended the senior luncheons in Williamston and liked listening to her gospel music while watching the birds outside her window. She also enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren.

Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon in 2001, her parents, Iva and Benjamin Swegles, daughters, Sandra Barbour and Patricia Rhodes, brothers, William and Charles Swegles, infant brother, Marvin, sisters Fern Long and Helen Jane Blair, grandson, Shane Crofoot, granddaughter, Coreena Crofoot and her beloved cat, Callie.

Muriel is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Kenneth) McKinney, Marilyn Stanton, Penny (Claude) Benjamin, Jody (Fred) Royce, stepdaughters, Verna (Charles) Parkinson, Elaine (Larry) Nalett, stepson, Kenneth (Bev) Van Riper, son-in-laws, Dale Barbour and Harry Rhodes, 29 grandchildren and 77 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Williamston Chapel, 205 E. Middle St. Williamston on Thursday July 26 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral Services will be Friday, 2 p.m. July 27, 2012 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Webberville Cemetery.
