He was born May 10, 1957 in Lansing to Richard and Margery (Hiles) Schmidt. Steve loved to fish, hunt, and play drums – especially with his church’s worship team. After retiring as a contractor and builder, he spent time crafting beautiful wooden creations in his home workshop. For Steve, there was nothing better than a day with family and there were never any “quick phone calls”.
Steve loved spending time with his family, and when he couldn’t be with them in person, he was happy to spend hours on the phone with them. Steve loved helping people and would give the shirt off his back. For Steve, all his friends were family to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; his children, Sandi (Justin) Douse, Swanna (Jay) Cavanaugh, Sharon (Paul) Sonnenberg, Travis (Alyson) Halsted, Marlena (Jeff) Miller, Sheila (Matthew) Estes, Dug (Sarah) Brewbaker; 23 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Christine (Robert) Rogers, Robert (Denise) Schmidt, Richard (Ruth) Schmidt, Lary Schmidt, and Eric (Edwina) Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews; and too many friends to name.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11am at Mason Assembly of God, 425 E South St, Mason. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 5pm until 8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Williamston Chapel, 205 E. Middle St., Williamston.
Memorial contributions may be made in Steve’s honor to Mason Assembly of God.
