

On the afternoon of March 14, 2016 at 3:53 PM Lorraine Taylor Leggett passed away at her home from the terrible diseases of dementia and alzheimer’s plus 2 broken shoulders.
She began her life 86 years ago on March 5, 1930 to Louis Henry and Penny Harrison Taylor. She weighed only 3 pounds at birth, was put under the edge of a heater in a shoe box. To survive she was fed whiskey with sugar in a medicine dropper.Her mama died when she was eight years old. Having no one to take care of her during the day, she had to follow her papa in the fields, learning to sucker corn, use the pea weeder with their mule named Maude.Later her papa married Manolia Walker, she had 4 more siblings.
At the age of 15 she married Mack Henry Leggett after he returned from World War II. They eloped to Dillion South Carolina on October 19, 1945. They began their 53 years of marriage on Bear Grass Road later starting a family of five daughters.
The girls were involved in school activities and she would always have supper ready early for them. She was a really good cook especially making cheese biscuits and frying chicken. She enjoyed gardening, canning, freezing vegetables and going fishing. She worked for a number of years at Loauis’s Shoppe and Designer’s Corner at the Piggly Wiggly.She was known as Grandmama, Granny, and Gigi by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Charlie Taylor, Octavis Taylor, and J. D. Taylor, and sisters Icylan Valentz and Patricia Holloman.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra L Moore and husband Alan of Bear Grass, Linda L Howell and the late Charles Howell of Bear Grass, Margaret L Scott and husband Tommy of Wilson, Gail L Hardison of Williamston, Frances L Peed & husband Freddie of Everetts, brothers Philip Taylor of Virginia, Gary Taylor of Bear Grass, and sister Marie Taylor Bailey of Williamston, grandchildren Susan M Holliday and husband Keith, Robbie Moore and wife Shannon, Tim Moore and wife Kristal, Joseph Parrish and wife Cindy, Karen P Long and husband Junior, Kimberly Moore and husband Jimmy, Karen Candes and husband John, Kristy Modlin, Amy Gibbs and husband Dan, Ashley Peed, Charlene Harris and husband Mike, Amy Winslow and husband Jack, Edwin Stott and wife Diane, and the late Heather Howell and fiancé James Wobbleton, great grandchildren Jake Lilley, Ashley and Brandi Holliday, Brandon Moore, Ashley Jackson and Cody, Kayla Moore, Johnathan Alexander and Jessalyn Moore, Brooks Stancil, Cameron and Katie Long, Evangelos and Alexander Canes, Caroline and Katie Gibbs, Camren and Allie Peed, Dylan Johnson, Jace Harris, Thomas and Spencer Stott, and Elizabeth Neill, great granddaughters Lilly Moore, and one on the way.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Biggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Derek Bosolona officiating; burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8:00 PM at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence 4294 Bear Grass Road
