

Oscar Everett Roberson, 97 died March 23, 2011 at home in Robersonville. Son of the late Susan Everett and Alonza Oscar Roberson, he was born November 13, 1913 in Robersonville, NC. He attended the Robersonville schools, Virginia Military Institute, and the Massey Business College.
He worked in the family business A O Roberson and Company until called to duty in World War II where he served in the Army Air Force. A staff sergeant, he was a B17 Bomber maintenance crew chief with the 379th Bombardment group which served in Kimbolton, England, France, and, North Africa. After the war he returned to the family business and married Katherine Davenport of Greenville, NC on April 26, 1947.
Oscar was a member of the First Baptist Church of Robersonville. He was active Shriner, a member of the Masonic Stonewall Lodge #296, and a member of the Scottish Rite.
Always health conscience, Oscar stayed fit bike riding, kayaking, and he especially enjoyed clogging. In his later years he would entertain at local nursing homes, putting on a show of clogging and jumping rope, which was a talent he learned while on the VMI boxing team. He enjoyed competing in the Senior Games in Greenville for many years, and earned quite a few metals in track and field, swimming and clogging.
He was preceded in death by a sister Bernice McRorie and niece Cassandra Thompson.
Survivors are his wife Katherine Davenport Roberson, daughter Nancy Roberson Tipton of Robersonville, son Gregory Lee Roberson of Marion VA, grandchildren Caleb Roberson, Benjamin Roberson and Isaac Roberson all of Marion, VA and Linzy Ann Roberson of Radford VA.
The graveside service will be held Saturday, at 11:00 AM at Robersonville Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall.
