Vara Rogers Harrison

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was a treasure to her family. She lived a long selfless life helping others. She will be remembered for her pleasant & friendly manner, positive outlook, her strength, her kindness and her generosity to all.

She was very active in her church. She was a charter member, past chairperson, and active member of the Flossie White Circle. She taught Sunday School and hosted numerous guests of the church in her home. She honored God by living a Christian life. She participated in many community activities. She started the first Girl Scout troop in Bear Grass and was the leader for several years. She was a charter member of the Martin County Historical Society and helped with the publication of the Martin County History Book and other projects.

She was a charter member of the Martin General Hospital Auxiliary, a youth group leader, and was instrumental in obtaining the old teacherage in Bear Grass for use as a community building, now known as the Yucca House. She supported Bear Grass School through the PTA organization. She gave numerous hours of service to charitable organizations in the county.

There will be a visitation at Macedonia Christian Church on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm and a funeral service will follow at 2:00pm.
