2021. He was born on Feb. 7, 1930 in Reisterstown, MD to Henry Augustus and Mary Ann
Vincett, both of whom were immigrants from England.
He graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, MD. He received his bachelor’s
degree in Agriculture Economics & Management from the University of Maryland 1953, and later
received his Doctorate in Agronomy from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) 1959.
His employment led him eventually to Saudi Arabia with his second wife, Betty, where he
worked and lived for over 10 years. Harry was one of the founding members of the Desert
Ramblers club exploring the deserts of Saudi Arabia. While maintaining a home in the alps of
Italy, first in Cortina d'Ampezzo then in Nebbiuno, Harry and Betty enjoyed hiking and skiing in
the alps. After moving back to the US, Harry worked for the Farmers Home Administration. He
later retired in Klamath Falls, Oregon where he enjoyed a variety of activities, including Lions
Club, photography club, Toastmasters, Wing Watchers Nature Trial, and was also named an
OSU Master Gardener.
In 2015 Harry moved to Darien Center, New York to be with family. Here, he was involved with
the Lancaster Lions Club, Alden Seniors, Toastmasters, the Genesee Area Genealogy Society,
and Lancaster Presbyterian Church small group ministry.
Harry was preceded in death by wife Betty Lipscomb Vincett, parents Henry A. and Mary A.
Vincett and sister Mary Ann Lewis. His first wife Carolyn Dale Bennett also preceded him in
death. He is survived by two sons, Mark Edward Vincett and wife Elise Vincett of Darien Center,
NY and Matthew Bennett Vincett and wife Jennifer Vincett of Rockingham, NC; seven
grandchildren Matthew T., Laurel, Luke, Nicholas, Holly, Henry M., and Cynthia Vincett.
Harry was known for his love of plants, and kept a meticulously irrigated garden in the high
desert of Oregon. Never without his camera, he traveled and lived overseas, in Italy and Saudi
Arabia. Some of his pictures of nature in Saudi Arabia were highlighted in three books authored
by his wife, Betty. In 1978, they were invited to lunch with Queen Elizabeth to present a copy of
the books to the Queen.
He shared his love of nature photography and wisdom about plants with all who knew him, and
his enthusiasm for these endured to the end of his days. We will never forget his yodeling call
for dinner, wonderful stories, and love of all things natural, interjected with his warm sense of
humor.
The funeral service will be held Wed. January 5th at 10 am at the Lancaster Presbyterian
Church. He will be interred at Druid Ridge Cemetery in Baltimore, MD adjacent to his wife Betty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lancaster Lions Club.
