

Ira H. Striejewske, age 91, of Eggertsville NY went home to be with the Lord, on January 9, 2026 surrounded by his family and friends at home. He was born on April 17, 1934 in Buffalo NY, beloved husband of 60 years to the late Marilyn L (Nee Griffen) Striejewske, and son to the late Otto and Inez (Behling) Striejewske of Eggertsville, NY. He was predeceased by his son, David Striejewske.
Ira graduated from Amherst Central High School and attended Erie County Technical Institute Mechanical Technology. He was employed with Westinghouse Corporation, Buffalo Division as an Industrial Engineering Technician for 27 years. He was drafted in 1957 into the US Army. He attended the US Army 164th Signal Co. and was a Graduate of Southeast Signal School. He served for Eggertsville Hose Company, Town of Amherst, Erie County, NY for the past 74 years. During this time, he served for 16 years as Fire Commissioner, Fire Chief 1977-1980 and has held every position within the department over the years. He began his fire service career in September 1952 and has been involved with the evolution of the department since then. Ira is known throughout the Town of Amherst and Erie County, NY as a fire instructor, mentor and leader. From 1974-1980 he served as Erie County Fire Instructor teaching firefighters from 96 fire companies within the county. During his time as a volunteer he has delivered two babies and personally rescued seven people from fire. In 1992 he organized the Town of Amherst Past Fire Chief’s Association and served as President for 15 years. He is a life member of the NY State Association of Fire Chiefs and the Firemen’s Association of NY State.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Striejewske of Eggertsville, NY, Donald (Michele) Striejewske of Alexander, NY; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
Friends may call on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Rd, Williamsville, NY. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 4007 Main Street, Amherst NY 14226. Please assemble at church.
