Dear Patty and family, 

John was one of the first people I worked with at GIBCO and he left a lasting impression with me over the years. When we think of John the words that come to mind are always heart, caring and great guy.   I could never get on a plane with John without him knowing at least someone on the flight. He knew everyone and was well liked by all.

As we read through the tributes to John's memory it's evident that he has made tremendous impacts on so many people. He will live on in the hearts and memories of all of us. He lived life fully and knew what was important. He's left a legacy that many people can only wish of.

I worked with John at GIBCO all through the 90s.  He was always inclusive and encouraging.  He wasn't afraid to get in there and work alongside his team to get it done.  Though I worked in a different department, he was instrumental in giving me a chance to prove myself for leadership.  He touched people's lives without even knowing it.  He will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about John's passing.  My many memories of him go back to my childhood in North Buffalo where both of his parents were also friends with my parents and they lived close to my Grandmother's house on North Park near St. Margaret's.

John was one of the older altar boys who taught me the many skills needed for situations such as how to nudge your friends in the throat when they were receiving Holy Communion.

John was always nice to everybody when we were young and I'm sure he carried that into his adulthood from all of the other entries I've read.

We were so sorry to hear of John's death.  Our condolences to his family.  He coached our daughter, Diana Gardner-Williams, on the Tigerettes team at Shoshone.  Such fun days. He was a great person and remarkable coach with so much patience when working with all those girls.

To the family , I'm so sorry for your loss. Seeing all the people that showed up to the Wake and the Funeral showed me how many people this effected. He was the best person to ever be involved in the Lightning organization, he will definitely be missed. The way he helped so many girls in softball, was amazing. I've known him since I started softball, and he's such a great guy. He was like a second dad to me. He will be missed, and no one will ever forget him.

To the Tripi family - I was very saddened to just hear of the passing of John - 'Trip' as he was known to me and my employees, was simply a great man.

When I lived and worked in the Buffalo area he and I had some great memories.  He gave my youngest son his 1st pair of skates and I took him out with some of the Blackhawks after a game at the Aud - we sincerely enjoyed each other's company and I know he would make me laugh like no one other.

We recently reconnected through work and ALL of my sales people had great respect and affection with our daily exchanges with John. 

He will be missed by all - it is a sad day in Mudville.

Dear Tripi Family:

Simply stated, Tripi was the best.  I played for him on the Shoshone major Tigers when I was 12 years old in 1983.  We obviously won the championship, because Tripi wouldn't have it any other way.  He was a great coach, as he brought a competitive edge that nobody else had.  In one season he created a lifetime of memories.  I often share those memories with my children too.  As a matter of fact, just two weeks ago I pulled my old Tigers championship jacket out for my 12 year old son to try on!
I was with my kids and I ran into him at SPP last winter.  I hadn't seen Tripi in over 20 years.  When I heard "Mike Mazzara!" I didn't even have to turn to look to know who it was.  He went on to tell my son a story about a hit I had in a particular game in 1983.  That's how much he loved us and loved what he did - in an instant he pulled out a memory from almost 30 years ago.  Tripi has been the topic of a million conversations over the years, as many of us from that tigers team and 12U Shoshone travel team are still close friends today.
To know him was to love him.  He was a winner!  Rest assured that his memory will live on, as he is simply unfortgettable. RIP Tripi.

Our Hearts go out to the Tripi Family.   John was a dedicated follower of the game of Softball.  Wayne and Ashley enjoyed and learned much about the game from John.  He will be missed, but remembered always!  Thank you for everything you did, John!.  Rest in peace.

To the Tripi Family, I don't recall meeting any of you through all the years of my softball coaching career. John was the true leader in getting girls softball off the ground in WNY. I took over the TIGERETTES from John, and replaced him on the Board of Directors of the Hertel North Park Youth Baseball League. I coached with John on the TIGERETTES, and learned an awful lot from him. He had a special way with the girls, and was able to teach them and get the most from them. John was truly a great coach and mentor. He will be deeply missed on the playing field. My condolences to you all.

Dear Tripi Family,

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.  Trip was a wonderful man who impacted my life greatly.  He single-handedly brought me from Connie Mack to Amherst Lightning when I was 15.  Because of him, I was able to play much more competitively for the rest of my career, including college.  Because of him, I shared amazing memories with amazing girls and developed life-long friendships.  He had the best laugh.  You could always count on hearing your name, whether you were at the plate or out in Center Field.  He got to know every single player and made every player feel valuable.  I hope you find comfort in knowing the incredible and lasting impact he had/will continue to have on this community.  Trip...I will think about you at every softball diamond from here on out. You will be missed greatly.

Aunt Pattie, Jill, & Johnie,
I am so sorry about what has happened to your family.  I know that Uncle John was not happy about Jill moving to Florida, but words can not express how grateful I am that that happened.  It provided my family the opportunity to reconnect with everyone.  Although the hustle and bustle of day to day life prevented us from talking as much as we should've, you were always on our mind and in our hearts.  Dominic's love of baseball became an obsession because of you, Uncle John.  When he hit his first homerun, he couldn't wait to come home and call you.  The impression that you made on him during your visits will last him a lifetime.  The only good thing is that you will now be able to watch all of his games and see his accomplishments. 
You will be missed everyday!

If it was not for Mr Tripi I can honestly say I would not be where I am today. He always made sure I had the best of the best, including a good college education. He motivated and encouraged me to bust my butt on and off the field. My family and I hold him and his family close to our hearts. We will NEVER forget what he has done for many. No one will ever yell ABBARNO quite as loud across any softball field like he would. It was quite terrifying but with only good intentions. :)

i'm so sorry for your loss. mr tripi helped me with softball a lot once i was on lightning. he would always be able to tell what anyone was doing wrong. every softball playerr in western new york knew and respected him. he will be loved and missed forever.

John was a coach who inspired his players to do their best.  He was tough but everyone knew under that tough exterior, was a kind hearted man who cared deeply about his players.  

Aside from my fond memories as a Tigerette with John as my coach, I have been fortunate to work with him over the last few years as a coach in the Amherst Girls' softball league.  John gave his all to this league, as well as others, and touched the lives of so many along the way. He will be missed.

To the Tripi Family....I have known and dealt with John for the past 11-12 years on the softball diamonds of WNY.  I first met John while I was in charge of the L/D Ponytails, continuing through my time with the WNY Mustangs and most recently as a member of his "Lightning Family" as coach of the 16U Peterson team.  John was always looking out for me and the well-being of the young ladies that I was coaching.  He pieced together a selection of girls to compliment the core group that stayed we me this season and was always at our pitching/hitting lessons and our team practices.  He was always conversing with our girls and encouraging them as they continued to bond together as a team.  I know that you will miss him dearly, but know that he touched the lives of thousands with his generosity, knowledge and compassion. Thank you for sharing your husband and father with us.

I would like to express my sympathy to you on John's death.  Our daughter played softball for the Amherst girls softball league that John was associated with.  Of all the people in the league, John stood out.  He gave of himself unstintingly to create the best teams possible.  Hundreds of girls owe their unique experience in softball to John's efforts. My condolences go out to all of you. John's Unparalleled Commitment to his family, kids and softball community will forever go unmatched. I don't believe anyone could possibly fill his shoes. He touched the lives of so many of us. From the kids that he helped, recruited, coached, mentored; to the parents that he shared friendships with; to the coaches that coached with him; to the colleges that he helped develop their programs, John meant a lot, to a lot of people. There was no stone left unturned when it came to the Amherst lighting softball program. John Tripi didn't just set a fine example for the Softball community here in WNY, he set a gold standard for it's existence. He was man of decency, fairness, principle, great generosity and hard work. He never hesitated to take the time to help anyone and you didn't have to be wearing a Amherst Lighting jersey to get that help. If just one person needed instruction, he went out and found an instructor to fill that void.

John was a man whose handshake was his contract. A commitment from John was an honored commitment. If John said it, it happened. He didn't follow anyone else's' lead. He did it his way, whether it be with his insistent way of getting training opportunities for kids on his teams, or his meticulous attention to knowing every single kid that played in his program. John wound up setting the standard by which other programs tried to follow. John developed the Lightning program into one of the most respected programs around. 

It is true that John did things that the rest of us can only imagine doing. Every lesson I gave for a lightning player, John seemed to be at 95% of them. He was an undeniable presence. More importantly, one that lives on. Of all the coaches, players and people in local softball, John cast the biggest shadow. His influence, his direction, his guidance, his knowledge, his decency will all live on through the lives of those he touched. 

I thank John for everything. From the trust and faith he showed in me to work with a great organization, to the personal conversations that we had which  showed his devotion and commitment to family, friends and players; I'm grateful to have had that personal friendship with someone who thought as much of me as I did of you. You will be greatly missed but always remembered.

There isn't a enough space to write about how good a man Tripi was. Getting to play for Tripi and play with jill was more fun the anyone can imagine. All of us girls had a great time. Mr John Tripi poured his heart, life, and soul into the Lightning organization, and he built it to be great. He extended his family to include over one hundred girls who wear the navy blue, red, and white uniform. He did so much for so many, and he will be dearly missed.


Saying goodbye is always hard, and this time its extremely tough. I love you Tripp, and I'll see you again someday.

To the Tripi Family...I'm very sorry for an incredible loss. John was simply a great man and we loved him. He gave so much to all of us without expecting anything in return. I'm confident my daughter would not be where she is without John's support and friendship. May we carry his spirit in our hearts for all our days.

Im very sorry to see he has passed away. I wouldnt be where I am today without his help on getting me on my first softball travel team when i was just 8 years old. This is now my 6th year. Thinking of him.

Mr. Tripi has impacted my life in unbelievable ways in the past year and a half. Since the day I met him, he has always worked his hardest to do what was best for me and for my softball career. I have never met somebody who put so much time and effort into other people's success. He has made the Lightning organization what it is today, and he will never be the same forgotten. Last year Mr. Tripi brought together a group of girls and made us HIS team. I am honored that I was a part of that. Coach Tripi had a passion for softball unlike anybody else and has taught my team and me great things about both softball and life. This coming season we will play in dedication of him and always try our hardest with him in our hearts and minds.  For the 2012 season our team will be know as Lightning-Drayer/Tripi.  We will always be his team. 

Thank you Tripi family for sharing this amazing man with me, my team, my family, and with the rest of the softball world. He has made a difference in the lives of many and is loved and missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with you I'm this difficult time.

To the Tripi Family: The 18U Drayer Lightning team has very heavy hearts and wishes to pass along our deepest sympathies for your families loss.I was  honored and humbled to have the opportunity to take over John's team from last season.Getting to know him over the past six months outside of softball showed me personally what a terrific human being he was. His heart was with anyone that wore a Lightning uniform and he created and nurtured what is well known within Lightning circles-he created the "Lightning family". Nine out of our twelve girls played for John last year and the sense of loss for them is overwhelming as we gathered together today as a team to grieve this tremendous loss, not only to every Lightning team but to the Western New York community. John's dedication and committment to his "Lightning girls" was evident in everything he did and he truly dedicated his life to the organization.
  Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.We will miss him more than words can express.

Mr. Tripi was so important to me, he had taught me that my team was more than a team they were a family. I will miss seeing him at every single practice. Ill never forget when I first met Tripi, he never changed a bit for anyone. Tripi was such a great coach, he put his team first, made us feel so important, and made sure we had everything we needed. He always believed in me. Tripi made sure whoever he was around know that we were his girls. I will never forget when Tripi said to me "Kas don't listen to other people, you listen to me i'm always right OK?" and he always was right.
I LOVE that man.
I truly will miss him.

With great respect, the Buffalo Softball Program is saddened by the passing of John Tripi. The WNY softball community has lost an incredible man whose friendly, approachable manner and big smile always will be remembered.  He was a great influence on the softball community and an overall advocate of the sport.   John will always be remembered for his contributions to the sport of softball, as well as the humor and tolerance he showed when dealing with the kids.

Sorry for your loss Tripi family. Our family loved and adored Mr. Tripi for many years. He has been a great coach to our daughter and always was there when we needed anything. Because of him our daughter is the pitcher she is today. He can not be replaced with the passion and love he had for the girls and softball. We will miss him dearly.

I feel lucky to have worked so closely with John through SPP.  I got to see what a wonderful man and person he truly is. His genuine passion for softball and the players involved with it showed in his dedication to the sport and the Lighting Organization.

To the Tripi family, I am very sad to hear about your loss. He was the one who brought me to the Lightning organization. One morning over the summer I was at SPP with my mom. No one else was there but Mr. Tripi. He saw me hitting and came over to us and introduced himself. He told me I should come to the Lightning tryouts. I took him up on the offer. At the tryouts I got hurt and Mr. Tripi came to the rescue. He drove me to the stand to get some ice. He always encouraged me to try my hardest. I will play my heart out this season in honor of him. I think he's up in heaven making a team of angels. I think God should put him in charge of lightning.

John was one of the most caring people I knew. No matter how busy he was at the field, he always had time to ask you how you were. And he genuinely cared about your response. He wanted every girl at Amherst Girls Softball to achieve their very best, no matter what level they were playing at. I will miss John very much and I send my condolences to his loving family!

So Sorry to hear of your loss. This man had such a passion for Softball and teaching the girls to be their best. He was our first encounter when my daughter Allysa tried out...he loved her! The Amherst Lightning taught her so much and it happened with the help of Coach Trip. He will sadly be missed!

To the Tripi Family-I worked with John @ GIBCO/Life Technologies for 10 yrs.  He was truly "one of a kind".  I am very sorry for your loss.

To the family of John, I knew John for a long time, but really had a chance to "know" him the last six months. He was an amazing man, not just about softball, but in every other way. Over the last six months, I enjoyed countless conversations with him. I saw him numerous times speak with many kids and take a genuine interest in what they are all about. My children as well as many others enjoyed talking with him. He took a genuine interest in all of them .  He will be greatly missed, but I am confident he will be looking over everyone with a big smile because of the huge legacy he has left behind. All that we learned from him we will continue to pass on, so others can continue to benefit from all he had to offer.

Mr. Tripi was one of the kindest men I have ever encountered. He believed in me and opened doors to new opportunities that would have otherwise remained closed. It was through Mr. Tripi that I became a part of Amherst Lightning travel softball, and had some of the best times of my life. WNY softball not only lost a great man, but the world lost a big heart. I will forever remember Mr. Tripi, his big smile, and the way he said my name. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones, and heaven better make room for another angel. Rest in peace Trip, you will be missed.

John Tripi was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold.  Our girls were blessed to have been able to have "Tripi" as their Amherst Lightning coach.  He truly cared about the girls and their well-being on and off the softball field.  It's hard to imagine doing anything "Amherst Lightning" without Tripi being there.  He always told the girls that college coaches were watching them and their actions on and off the field... from now on there will be a true angel watching down over them at all their games.  God bless you John Tripi for all you gave of yourself, and God bless your family for sharing you with us.  xo

To  Patti, John , an Jillian Me and my family are so very sorry for your loss. John and I were in high school together. I hadn't seen him for years until our daughter Elyse had tried out for one of his teams. When he called to ask if she would play within the first five seconds it was like we never lost contact he was to our advantage that we had met up again he gave us and so many more families the opportunity to spend time and built great memories with our daughters. It was always a treat to listen to him argue with umps he always stood up for his girls. He gave so much to others thanks to you and your family for letting us share his life. Dear Pat, Jillie and John, We are heartbroken at the loss of "Tripi".  Every memory I have of Ashley playing softball John is in it.  From being her coach, her manager and "our" friend. I'm thankful for knowing him and having him in my memories.  It is an understatement when it's said that Amherst Girls softball will miss him, he is leaving a huge void that will be impossible to fill. John was such an amazing and talented coach.  He began his softball coaching career back in the early '80's when the baseball community challenged his techniques - so he told him that his philosophy was a winning one - it worked with the boys and he could even win coaching girls - and he did.  He coached the Tigerettes  to 3 winning seasons, while I was with the team - he led us to an undefeated season and championship.  He taught us all so much and gave me some wonderful memories.  I have not seen Coach Tripi in years, but he will always be in my heart.  Rest in Peace coach - and to his family - my most sincere condolences.

There are no words to express the feelings at this time, Lost is a good husband, father, confidante, friend, and more. I am overloaded with gratitude, for having met this man many years ago, and for hisd help in making my daughter what she is today. Look down on us all John, and keep us safe as we continue to try and excel in the game you loved so much. A part of you remains on every field we step on. Rest in peace my good friend...Love Ya' Brother.

I will miss John Tripi; he was a good friend and helped my two girls whenever they needed him. John gave everything he had for WNY girls softball and helped improve the lives of countless families! He was always there working hard to develop the girls abilities, increase their confidence to succeed, and give the girls the opportunity to reach their dreams. The Amherst community at large greatly benefited by Johns tireless pursuit to make changes and his desire to offer girls a safe friendly place to play and have fun! It will take 2 or 3 people to replace Johns output but no one can replace John and what he has done for so many people! My deepest condolences to Johns family!
